Kentucky basketball scheudle irks Vandy's Kevin Stallings

Featured Replies

Fans have to wait another three-plus weeks before John Calipari brings his Kentucky Wildcats to Nashville for the first meeting between the SEC’s current co-leaders, a Feb. 11 tilt at Vanderbilt’s Memorial Gym that will feature a visit from ESPN GameDay.

Vanderbilt Coach Kevin Stallings didn’t need to wait until then to address what could be construed as a little preferential treatment toward the ‘Cats.

Stallings, whose team is preparing for a short Thursday-Saturday turnaround this week with games at Alabama and vs. Mississippi State, said today that it’s “not right” for Kentucky to receive a league schedule that lacks a Thursday-Saturday combo for the second consecutive season.

And it’s not just that. The Wildcats benefit from Saturday games with four tired SEC opponents that are coming off Thursday night games – the most of any team in the league.

“Go figure that one out for me, would you?” Stallings said. “We all agreed to do it, so if you have one like we have one, I’m not going to complain with the one that we have. To not have any and to be able to play four teams that have to do it to play you … that’s not right.”

I'm not sure how much the networks wanting to show Kentucky in prime time effects the SEC schedule, but I believe he's got a very legitimate complaint.

I don't blame him. It's a fair point to make/question to ask.

Was he the coach that mentioned it last year?

I believe he was.

Is this the Kevin from the "Office"?

Stallings has repeatedly made clear how much he loathes playing two games in 72 hours. He mentioned this last year, this year, & every NCAA Tournament...

Ironically, he has no concerns about Vandy's freakshow arena.

If they all agreed to do this, then he definitely has a legit gripe. Who is the scheduler?

I would say that most of UK's conference schedule is dictated by the various television contracts.

Maybe I have blue goggles on but in this day in age I just don't buy what this guy is selling. Almost seems like he's trying to deflect negative attention from how his team has performed thus far this season. Kids now are used to basketball 24/7. These kids play in tournaments that can have multiple games each day growing up. I really just think he's trying to play the role of the victim here and it's sad.

Also any one catch that last weeks games against Auburn was a Wednesday night game instead of a Tuesday like all of the others, and then this article surfaces a little less than a week later. I wonder if Auburn should have been the Thursday game......

No.

No.

How do you know that to be the case, I'm just curious?

But Vandy typically only plays 1 game in the tournament.

If I'm Cal, I'm mad that I don't get a single 5 day Saturday to Thursday break all season. Shut up and play Stallings.
