"Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus || Spoken Word"

I thought this was interesting. Even if you disagree, it was a good poem.

A poem I wrote to highlight the difference between Jesus and false religion. In the scriptures Jesus received the most opposition from the most religious people of his day. At it's core Jesus' gospel and the good news of the Cross is in pure opposition to self-righteousness/self-justification. Religion is man centered, Jesus is God-centered. This poem highlights my journey to discover this truth. Religion either ends in pride or despair. Pride because you make a list and can do it and act better than everyone, or despair because you can't do your own list of rules and feel "not good enough" for God. With Jesus though you have humble confident joy because He represents you, you don't represent yourself and His sacrifice is perfect putting us in perfect standing with God!

Any time people can make money off of something, the purity of the idea is hindered. Religious institutions are great, as they help understand, or at least get different ideas on scripture and traditions. However, I can see why some people become disenchanted w/ organized religion. My only problem with this group is that they don't feel like they need to give their time to God at a mass of some sort. I find many who hold this to be lazy. They want to be religious, but don't want to dedicate themselves to their version of the faith. I'm not saying that they should pray for hours a day, but some sort of meditation through the week. Also, live the faith that they profess (many church goers should do this as well.)

Awesome. Poweful. Thought-provoking. Mentions a lot of truths.

A friend posted this on Facebook, and it made me laugh.

I think it's a shame...when Christians are lame. They lay in the weeds...when they should be doing good deeds. But those deeds become a waste...when done in poor taste. So the moral of my story...give God the glory.

As to the video, I get what he's trying to do and agree with that intent. But I think he somewhat confuses religion's role. Religion doesn't save. It doesn't curry favor with God. It doesn't give us brownie points with the Almighty. But religion (or "deeds" as it says in James) does authenticate faith. It gives identity and validity.

So to say that Jesus died to abolish religion is silly.

‎"If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." -- James 1: 26-27

I think the video is very solid and I definitely agree with some of his points. I honestly feel its how a lot of Christians in my generation feel from my discussions.

My faith is about my personal relationship with God/Jesus. And to many times I believe that Christians become to judgemental if you don't go to church enough, don't pray before every meal, and etc. Reminds me a lot of my ex-girlfriend's mother, but I won't get into that.

And we thank you for that.

:thumb: For me at least, the self-righteousness of most Christians is appalling, and makes me seriously question if I want to be associated with people like that.

You're welcome haha, but it would probably open up some good discussion about this topic.

I completely agree. Which is why sometimes I struggle with finding a church that I really enjoy, because I don't want to be associated with the self-righteousness that comes with a lot of Christians in there mid 40's - mid 50's. Of course that is a generalization.

Exactly! :D

Is there a famous quote that goes "if you want to get rich, start a religion"?
