Right. That's his motivation. Has nothing to do with the underlying theme of hardcore evangelicism that Catholics are hell-bound heathens.

I remember when Pope John Paul II died I overheard many Protestants discussing if he was going to hell or not.

My Step-Mom, her family, and all my half-siblings are Catholic. My Mom, Dad, and everyone in their families are all Southern Baptist (or atheist/agnostic ). So I have been around both groups quite a bit. I know EXACTLY what Jim is referring to. My immediate family doesn't believe that way but I have heard a lot of hostile remarks about Catholics from members of various churches my Mom has been a part of.

 

When my dad ran for public office, there were preachers in town who actively campaigned against him by telling folks he'd gamble away all the county's money at the boat across the river, because that's just how Catholics are. I hope there's a special place in Hypocrites' Hell reserved for them.

I guess the bolded point is why you don't remember it. My experience in our hometown was not terribly pleasant. There's a reason I don't go back very often.

Even though people have heard the Gospel many times it doesn't hurt to rehash it. And hear it again.

To be fair, I think some things have gotten better. The '70s and '80s were a different time. But for me, the damage has been done. That's why the folks I consider my friends are close, and I don't much care for the rest of them.

By saying that about non-Christians you are being just as guilty of it as Tebow. Why else would they practice missionary work on Catholics if they didn't think the needed "saving"?

From a Christian perspective it's not about what God you worship, it's whether you're saved from spending eternity in hell. The only way to avoid that is salvation through Christ. This is something Muslims and Jews don't have.

In some research I did, wikipedia states that 80% of the Philippine's population are Catholic. According to the Tebow Church website 65 million of the 85 million population have never heard the Gospel. Obviously a conflict, or at the very least a difference in what the Tebow Church would define as "never heard the Gospel."

Accepting Jesus Christ as your savior is key to Christianity. Those that have not had that opportunity to do so are the ones that I would most worry about.

I've explained this multiple times in the other thread. Mormonism just isn't something I want in the leader of my country. Just as I don't want to vote in an Evangelical. I find ALL religions to be at best silly and at worse poisonous.

However, I certainly cannot fathom an atheist that categorizes religions in his/her voting choices. It seems like to me any belief in a god would be equally bad to an atheist. I'm honestly interested in the details that make Mormonism less desirable than say Catholicism.

Harping may have been a poor choice of words. But you're saying they shouldn't preach to Catholics but advocating them preaching to others with their own religions. From the CoBT there isn't a difference there and it definitely comes off as hypocritical...
