Jesus did not like how the Pharisees wore their self-rightousness on their sleeves. I really don't think he wants his followers doing the same.

One thing that the book of Acts teaches us in the story of Ananias ands Sapphira is that our relationship with the church reflects our relationship with God,

 

If you steal from the church then your stealing from God.

If you ignore the church then you are ignoring God.

If you love the church then you are loving God.

If God is important to you, then the church should also be important to you.

 

Is it possible for me to hate a child but love that child's parents? Would those parents (who love their child dearly) accept my love knowing that I strongly dislike their child?

Are you saying you would like a closer relationship with God/Christ, but the actions of Christians are keeping you from that?

It boils down to your true relationship with God. God, and only God, knows our true intentions. That's why we do not judge others.

 

i.e. People who do not attend church may not necessarily hate God, or ignore God. There could be various reasons as to why they do not attend.

You do understand that Jesus and the Bible tells us to use righteous judgement and have imput about spiritual things for each other. And in Ezekiel 3:18, it states that if we don't warn others of their Sins, their BLOOD will be on our hamds.

Awesome...the fellow is preaching the gospel. The good news for mankind, that a Savior has done for man what man COULD NOT do for Himself - pay the debt for his sin. He makes the cross and the work of Christ bigger, that is, he is boasting in the cross and the finished work of Jesus Christ as the only way for a man to come into righteousness, fellowship and relationship with His maker. He correctly preaches the emptiness and futility of man trying to make himself right with God apart from the cross of Christ through his effort and good works.

 

If you are trusting in your works or performance to make yourself right with God and ultimately a place in heaven, then you are what this fellow calling religious. There is no amount of "doing good" or going to church that will make a person right with God. This self righteousness, if you will, is filthy rags before God. The standard is perfect and NO one can meet that. He is not saying that you don't do any good works, certainly good works you shall do, BUT you cannot trust in those works as being sufficient for your standing before God. The Apostle Paul stated the point this way to the church at Galatia, "If righteousness could be attained by keeping the law, then Christ died in vain!" Point is...we can't make ourselves good enough, we could never perform perfect - so the cross provides our salvation. The only one perfect, Jesus, took our debt for sin which is death and put it on Himself, and He was risen from the dead, thus stating that His sacrifice was sufficient for us.

 

On the other hand, if a person has seen and admitted their sinful condition (not the action of sin as much as the condition of the heart as sinful - the reason we can't be perfect) AND wholeheartedly confesses this to Christ, putting all of their trust in the work of Christ on the cross, then that person can receive the salvation, forgiveness and righteousness that Christ provided for them. In other words, a persons faith is transferred from them self and their self performance to Christ and His incredible and sufficient work on the cross.

Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; Philip. 3:8-9 (NKJV)

 

Faith in Christ, and not our religious performance, is our only hope for salvation and more so it is our hope for life and a new heart. Check this out...

I just had to come to the end of myself and confess Christ as my only Savior and ask Him into my life. He comes in to anyone who admits and confesses Him. He comes in our hearts in the person of the Holy Spirit and He imputes all these things toward us. We become right...on His account! We have his heart and spirit in us...then...the good works will flow.

I disagree with your point but it is a good one. I think it is more than your intentions. Tt is what you do with those intentions.

 

Cain probably had good intentions when giving his sacrifice, but his action was flawed because he did not follow protocal causing God to reject his worship. Yes our relationship with God is important, but we also are expected to do various things. And going to church is one of them.
