Guess Tim Tebow doesn't think this part of Jesus' teaching is all that important ...

 

I am not a Broncos fan, nor was I a Florida fan and I'm not a Tebow fan, but...(and I can't believe that I am going to defend him) does simply thanking God for your life make you self-rightous? I always take that to be when someone shows disapproval for what someone else does, implying that they are better.

Let's see that verse. Something tells me your interpretation of it is different than mine.

Ezekiel 3:17-20- 21:22. We see it again18:4/5/9. And then its so important God delievers it again almost word for word, so you read it 3 times, muct be important if he says it 3 times in one book.

I find people who can't open their mouth without saying something religious-toned, who try to change every subject to something religious-toned, to be very self-righteous, and at least partially, if not primarily, doing it for the whole "look at me, I'm a Christian" effect.

I agree. I find Tebow the person to be very genuine and a caring individual. FWIW, I find Tebow the quarterback to be decent, but lucky!

I see where you are coming from, but I have yet to see/hear one moment of condemnation or negativity from Tebow. Maybe the people that you refer to from your town are not like Tebow.

 

There is a difference between those people that try to preach to you and show you the "error of your ways" and those for whom their relationship with God is just an ingrained part of them and everything that they do has a flavor of that. I put Tebow in the 2nd group.

I see what you mean, but the nature of his missionary work -- i.e. preaching the Gospel in a devoutly Catholic country where it's already been heard -- tells me he's a lot more like those folks than he publicly let's on.

If he is preaching it to practicing Catholics, then you have a point there.

I would venture to say that the Catholic Church in our hometown has pretty good attendance and I have yet to hear any sermons at the the Baptist church that I attend that condemn Catholics. Your experience must have been different than mine.

I guess the bolded point is why you don't remember it. My experience in our hometown was not terribly pleasant. There's a reason I don't go back very often.

Right. That's his motivation. Has nothing to do with the underlying theme of hardcore evangelicism that Catholics are hell-bound heathens.

My Step-Mom, her family, and all my half-siblings are Catholic. My Mom, Dad, and everyone in their families are all Southern Baptist (or atheist/agnostic ). So I have been around both groups quite a bit. I know EXACTLY what Jim is referring to. My immediate family doesn't believe that way but I have heard a lot of hostile remarks about Catholics from members of various churches my Mom has been a part of.
