To be fair, I think some things have gotten better. The '70s and '80s were a different time. But for me, the damage has been done. That's why the folks I consider my friends are close, and I don't much care for the rest of them.

I am 21 years old. I went to private, Catholic schools from the age of 5-18. I will say that I never once, in all of the years that I sat through (sometimes painful) religion classes heard any negative remarks about other faiths. There were a lot of lessons about the Protestant movement being a heresy of the Catholic Church, but that fact is not arguable, nor does it carry the negative connotation that the word "heresy" has come to acquire. In fact, Catholicism, in its own way is a heresy of the Jewish faith, just as much as Protestantism is a heresy of Catholicism. Anyway, Jim Schue, I have had similar experiences with different Protestant denominations and their view of Catholics. Those experiences are not of the same magnitude yours have been, however, and I'm sorry to hear about that.

 

In response to the video and to how some have interpreted it, I just don't know. I think the man has a point. There has been a great deal of good that has come from organized religion, but for groups that claim they're following a deity that preaches love and whose "Golden Rule" was "Treat others as you'd want to be treated," they have certainly lost their way. I doubt you'd find me a so-called self-righteous man/woman who would be okay with me telling them about some of the atheistic thoughts/beliefs that I have. I mean the notion of God, to me, should be something that you come to yourself. Part of the reason I so dislike organized religion is because of the majority of its proponents and how they strike me. It gave me an incredible education, though.

From a Christian perspective it's not about what God you worship, it's whether you're saved from spending eternity in hell. The only way to avoid that is salvation through Christ. This is something Muslims and Jews don't have.

The answer to the bolded above is, yes. This is what the Bible says, this is what Jesus said.

 

Now, if God has some other plan that is not revealed to us, I don't know. There are some schools of thought that allow for the salvation of Jews due to their being the "chosen" people. Also, the age-old question of what to do about those that have never heard the gospel - are they lost? Personally, I'm not sure what God does in those cases - he's God and he can do what he wants.

 

But if we are going by the information God has revealed to us through the Bible, then the only way to salvation is through Christ.

John 14:6 Jesus say " I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life No One comes to the Father except thru me". Matthew 1:21 Jesus is born to save his people from their Sins.

 

Matthew 7:13 Enter thru the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter thru it. But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few will find it".

 

I do not say who goes to heaven or hell after several years a go a preacher on a radio call in show told me I was doomed to Hell due to being a member of the Baptist Church.

 

But the Bible very clear. You must have your name written in the book of Life. Revelation 21:27 22:12 states "Behold, I am coming soon. My Reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done".

 

I think this video demonstrates that this guy means well but has some errors in his facts and reasoning. This leans Catholic obviously but I believe most Christian religions would say this priest has many good points. It helps to watch the I hate religion but love Jesus video one more time before watching this because the priest addresses many of this guy's accusations and you may have forgot them.

Sorry Larry, but I see Jim's point entirely here. Tim and others would do better to do their missionary work with non-Christians, instead of Catholics.

I'm a Christian Baptist who attends a Christian Church, and I read/hear the Gospel everytime I get a chance or want to reread it.

When I go on vacation with him, he checks the local church times where we're visiting. I've seen many beautiful churches as a side benefit of this.

Yes, thats the point I made, we need to hear it every Sunday and also during the week.

 

Can you show me the differece of the Gospels of "Bob Tebow" and a Catholic one? Now you don't have to, because I never in my life have used a man's name in a version of the Gospel and never will. I just quoted Bob Tebow Gospel as it was stated in the thread post.

 

I traveled in my job as a Train Engineer and had to stay in Hotels more than normal people. (Railroaders are not normal) I also loved visiting churches outside my home. I think its cool your dad did this.

 

Now if you asked me the difference of the Catholic Gospel and the one I understand I'll reply. But with scriptures, and not my writing.
