January 10, 201214 yr Great point. I love the NBA but I wanted no parts of the Spurs/Pistons finals. I believe that was the lowest rated NBA finals. Granted, I enjoyed the game last night but you make valid points as far as them not being entertaining teams playing for the title. I didn't enjoy the Baylor and Washington game either. I need something in the middle to be entertained. I can watch nearly any NFL game.

The Honey Badger? The guy is a DB. Trent Richardson? Does he move the masses like an Andrew Luck, RGIII, Cam Newton, etc.? The biggest names in this game were the two coaches and that can only take you so far. The defense was the spotlight.

January 10, 201214 yr 35 bowl games and played on a Monday night, and January 9th at that had a lot to do with it IMO. Wasn't the WVA game the lowest rated ever also? Saturation, mid week, mid January. It all adds up.

Perhaps that's a result of growing up a Bengals fan but I just prefer the college game, I started counting down the days til the first game of the season from about 100 days out. I am with you...to me the NFL is much more boring than college football...in fact Bama and LSU to me looked like an NFL game and teams (However I enjoyed the heck out of the game). There were about 10 hits last night that would hav been fines and penalties in the NFL...one reason I think the NFL is becoming more and more boring. The only thing a playoff or plus one would have accomplished, is we would have seen LSU take Stanford and Luck to the woodshed, and Bama would have made mince meat of OKL State...then we would have gotten to see Bama vs LSU.

LSU did average almost 36ppg (including last night's game I believe), and Bama averaged almost 35ppg. Either of those teams would have put on a show vs anyone else.

The game last night featured 2 teams that are probably within 100 miles of each other. Of course ratings were going to be lower than if USC or a big market team were involved. College football is alive and well.

As bugatti pointed out, last year's championship game was the highest rated ever and it was between "small market" teams as well. In my opinion, the BCS ratings, as well as all down bowl ratings as a whole, reflects a dissatisfaction with the BCS selection criteria, the bowl system in general, and all the off the field garbage that went on this year that took away from the season (expansion, violations by major programs, and Penn State pedophilia). People are finally seeing the blatant money grubbing of ESPN and the BCS schools and conferences and are fed up. One can only hope the powers that be notice this and make the changes the fans want.

January 10, 201214 yr I prefer the college game but I think the SEC is bad for college football. Best players are from the south, the biggest fan bases (which means most money) are in the south for the most part, and because of both they are able to hire the best coaches.

January 10, 201214 yr Maybe people didn't want to see a defensive struggle...offense often sells seats. I just hope the NCAA doesn't start tweeking there rules to make sure the offense succeeds like the NFL. I though in past years, the NC game was played on a Thursday night...am I wrong about this?
January 10, 201214 yr It's been a Monday night for as long as I can remember. Maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part...between NC football, Superbowl, and NCAA Basketball final...those are 3 long weeks...
