Of coarse I don't understand how three officials could miss this. But I also don't understand how a whole bench full of assistant coaches, players, and managers wouldn't see this and immediately make the head coach get an official's attention. Crazy.

Hilarious stuff. I thought it was funny as they were all shaking hands the WKU players were exasperated but the LLU players were like trying to not laugh out loud.

The fans at the bottom right were pleading in vain to the referee, how frustrating. You have 3 referees couldnt one of them do a count?

I used to officiate soccer quite a bit, and we were always supposed to count the number of players everytime. Can't promise you that I never forgot.

 

So I'd imagine basketball is the same.

I think it's the responsibility of the official opposite the throw-in, but I'm not certain.

It's not the specific job of one official. Any and all should be verifying. Sometimes you'll see one ref give a signal to the other that there are 10 and they're ready to go.

Nothing will happen to these officials. If they are suspended a game they will just go to another conference and pick up a game much like the guys who erred in The Big East conference tourny last year. They were taking off the rest of the tournament and just went to another tournament. One of them did the Big ten Final. But you cant criticize officials or you get in trouble. This could have been a potentially big loss for a mid major team trying to secure enough wins to get into NCAA tournament. Those guys are paid well enough to make sure the right number of players are in the game. It should have also been caught by official book keeper. I attended a high school game on tuesday night and the officials realized that 6 players from one team was on the floor before they put the ball in play.

Sure would have liked to see this one to its completion after watching the first 40. Just as they went to OT, Channel 21 that carried the game in L'ville switched over to some garbage drama series right at 10pm.

It must have been like Tinkers to Evers to Chance to Smith.

Officials can change a last second shot as time expires, that is correctable. They can change a 3 pointer later in the game, if there is proof his foot was on the line. IMO.....Should have been a T called on LL and Western shooting a FT.

Not every play is reviewable. This has to be caught during play.

But shouldn't have to be. The 3 point shot being reviewable is a terrific example. Its something that can be clearly seen/corrected via video. The fact that time expired before it was caught is unreal. They can go back to review if time did/didn't run out, so why not this too? The 6 players were still on the court as time expired.

 

Stupid stupid stupid rule/ruling/officiating. NO EXCUSE.
