Not that this matters but Ayers refereed the Final Four last year. It wasn't like these guys were working their first games of their career. My referee connections say the penalty will be very severe, which it should be. No excuse for this at ANY level!

Athletics Director Ross Bjork even had words for officials Roger Ayers, Reinaldo Acosta and Brad Gaston as they exited the floor.

 

Bjork alerted the referees as they exited that there were six players on the floor for the last play, but the referees had no reply to Bjork, Associate Athletic Director Todd Stewart said.

 

Bjork declined further comment after the game was over.

John McElwain, Associate Commissioner for the Sun Belt Conference, said his understanding was that that particular play was not a reviewable call.

 

"The clock hit zero, the officials conversed briefly and that point in the game was decided," he said.

 

McElwain said he spoke with Commissioner Wright Waters Thursday night and determined that the first course of action would be to have Director of Officials Mike Wood review the tape and meet with the officials.

 

McElwain could not comment on the future of the officials as far as suspension or termination was concerned. He said the film would be reviewed within the next 24 hours.

But shouldn't have to be. The 3 point shot being reviewable is a terrific example. Its something that can be clearly seen/corrected via video. The fact that time expired before it was caught is unreal. They can go back to review if time did/didn't run out, so why not this too? The 6 players were still on the court as time expired.

Sure, but the reviewable/not reviewable line seems to be drawn at "judgement call." A palming violation is a judgement call. A block/charge is a judgement call. 6 guys on the floor is not.

Should have been pretty obvious when everybody was guarding a man and one guy was completely unguarded and the unguarded guy was right in front of the official at the bottom of the screen where the fans were yelling at the ref. Thats bad.
