January 3, 201214 yr As I just posted in the Georgia game thread, Stanford playing for a 35 yard field goal at the end of regulation instead of continuing to run offense and go for the TD is just not smart, especially with a redshirt freshman kicker who had already missed one in the game from 41.
January 3, 201214 yr The reason I'm so high on OK St is 1.) I love Mike Gundy and 2.) I love the way Blackmon and Weeden play. Their defense wasn't very impressive, but that offense is a lot of fun to watch. Stanford is no slouch, and I really feel bad for their frosh kicker right now. He's really beating himself up right about now.

This game convinced me that OK St. has no business in the title game.
January 3, 201214 yr I agree about Blackmon and Weeden. They are impressive. Stanford's D was not impressive. This game convinced me that OK St. has no business in the title game. Stanfords D came in ranked at 25th in the nation, that's not too bad. I still think OK State could've given LSU an exciting game. It wouldn't have been a low scoring game and i seriously doubt they would've won, but i will stick by my statement. I am fine with Bama though, as they are definitely more than deserving (I said it Larry, lol), but i still stick by what I said. There's definitely no reason for a split championship no matter what.
January 3, 201214 yr Oh yeah, I forgot. Andrew Luck throws the prettiest ball I've seen in the college game. 26/30 for 300 yards is impressive, even against a sub par OK St D.
January 3, 201214 yr Would it have been too much to ask for Gundy to punch that last one in instead of kicking the field goal to let me cover?!
January 3, 201214 yr Would it have been too much to ask for Gundy to punch that last one in instead of kicking the field goal to let me cover?! Lol I thought it was risky to not try to punch it in. Maybe I'm just too aggressive, but after watching the Stanford kicker botch two in a row, no way I kick a field goal when I'm 6 inches from the goal line. Edited January 3, 201214 yr by dto1177
January 3, 201214 yr Fun game to watch; absolutely no defense on either side of the ball though. Both teams moved the ball at will. I questioned it before, but after tonight's game, the selection committee got the national title game right. I don't think that Oklahoma State would of had much of a chance against LSU or 'Bama. Even though in a losing effort, Luck still proved that he is going to be the #1 pick in the draft and Blackmon won't be far behind him.

They just beat one of the other top teams in the country, but this games shows they had no business being in the title game? Yet I guess you believe Bama deserves to be? Even though they already lost to that LSU team, and lost to them while playing on their own home field? With State winning this game, this shows that they probably deserved a chance just as much as Bama did. It's a real shame that there are no playoffs in college football. I mean I do understand why Bama is in it, however its not a fair argument for them to be in either. If people say that the regular season is the playoffs, then Bama lost in the playoffs on their own home turf. If anything if the regular season is the playoffs, then we should have just crowned LSU the National Champions already. That probably would have been the most fair thing to do, more so than using opinions to decide who plays them.

January 3, 201214 yr Prime example why you don't rely on kickers to win games. Would have liked to seen Standford to continue to move the ball and try to score. They have 56 seconds and 3 timeouts.
January 3, 201214 yr Hard for me to criticize the Stanford coach for playing conservatively. If you're a top five team & you line up a middle-of-the-field 35-yard FG attempt for your kicker, he's supposed to hit it. I'm sure the coach is second-guessing himself, as are the Cardinal fans, but he did what I would have done.

Why stop what you have been doing all nite and let the kicker lose it for you. They also had two timeouts left. But a great game and give the Cowboys credit they took the lead at the right time. As a dad of a kicker I asked him this morning if he still he wants to kick and he said "even more, I'd hit it"
