My point?

The basic object of college football is not to determined who National Champion is. It's to make money.

It took 100 years of college football to get a system that even attempted to get #1 to play #2 in a championship game. Before the BCS, the national champion itself was selected by opinion. There was no championship game. The AP pulled out of the BCS, because they felt their opinion poll was more justified than the combined BCS polls. If it were up to the AP, we'd go back to the old way. It sells more ad time in papers and blogs. Controversy sells. Ask ESPN.

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid your solution has been proposed on here, not to mention, by the media many times over the last 10 years. Feel free to look back through the threads. Last I checked, 2006 threads are still reviewable in this forum. I also remember watching a debate on the "Experts" about a playoff, like you propose, before this season.

I know this sounds like an echo, too. However, the current system makes too much money for those who sponsor it. Given the attendance, TV ratings, and product sales, the current system is working fine for THEM. If it were more profitable, don't you think we'd already have a playoff? It doesn't matter how exciting you or I think it would be. It doesn't matter how much sense a playoff system makes to us. It doesn't even matter what the NCAA thinks. The bottom line is that those who are in control of the money don't agree with us, and until it can be proven to THEM that a playoff is to a monetary advantage to THEM, a playoff is not going to happen.

You can give examples of how great a playoff would be and preach your gospel until you physically turn Kentucky Blue. We can all agree with your premise, too. However, there is no reason for THEM to change THEIR system, if those clamoring for a playoff, support that vary system by continuing to watch the games, attend the games, and buy the products sponsored by those games. The only way to get THEIR attention is to stop supporting THEIR system. By watching the games yesterday, you and I are part of the problem. That's my point.

No that is where you are wrong. Most people's playoff proposals seem to do with getting rid of the bowls for some reason. Which they don't have to do. If you have 8 teams in it, and play the 1st round the week after the season ends say at the top 4 seeds home fields. That would leave you with 4 teams left in the semifinals. You play the semi finals in two BCS bowls that rotate. One year say its the Rose and Orange, the Next its the Fiesta and Sugar. When then allows you to have the National Championship in one of the BCS bowls that didn't host the Semi-Finals that year. The teams who got knocked out in the 1st round of the playoffs get placed in bowl games, and obviously the teams who didn't make the playoffs go to normal bowl games too. So your still having all your bowl games which make money, but your also deciding the Champion on the field through a playoff system. So how would they lose money by doing that? Yes if they had a playoff system and not have the bowls then yeah they would use money. However the way I mentioned it would not make them lose any money at all. If anything probably make more money because tv ratings probably would go up even higher too.

What selection committee?

Guess basketball is starting to get on my mind, lol. Meant the rankings, computers, etc.

Your last sentence in your first post I quoted says it all. Which is that you THINK Bama would have beaten both those teams. Which they might have, but no one knows that for sure. We have no idea if Bama goes undefeated either while playing in the Big 12 or Pac 12. Yes there is a good reason to believe they would have, but we don't know that they would have. Once again it is just opinion. Bama had their shot just as well as Oklahoma State did. Bama had LSU on their OWN home field and couldn't get it done. So why are they more deserving to get a rematch now at a neutral field when they couldn't do it on their own home field?

I do think Bama is the 2nd best team in the country too, however that is not what should determine it. We have NO IDEA if the BCS got it right by putting Bama in there. We just think they did, which once again is opinion. It's a shame that we end great college football season's, with people's opinions determining just two teams who should play in the Title game.

Because Bama lost to a better team than OKState and didn't lose much ground in the BCS standings. That is why they are more deserving. Had LSU beaten Bama by two or more touchdowns then I guarantee OKState would be getting prepared to get smashed by Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Louisiana next Monday.

If we agree that Bama is the 2nd best team in the country then what is the problem?

I'd put Michigan State higher than Clemson and West Virginia. The top 8 is still wrong.

Boise State>West Virginia also.

The problem is that we are determining things on what we think, it is opinions that are determining who is in the title game. That is a HORRIBLE way to determine, especially in sports when OPINIONS are proved WRONG all the time. Both teams play in different concerts we have no idea if maybe Bama woud have possibly lost in the Big 12 sometime with Oklahoma State's schedule. Or maybe Oklahoma goes undefeated in the SEC and beats LSU if LSU played at OSU. Even though I agree that Bama is better, we have no idea for sure that they are. So since they happen to play in a better conference that means they are better? We don't know that. Since it is uneven on who teams play and what conferences they are in. There needs to be a playoff and have at least the 6 conference champions in it, and probably then two at larges. This way it leaves no doubt, and a team knows for sure they are in if they win their conference. Then from there its win or go home.

The way they crown a champion is worst in all sports. College football I believe would have a chance to be the most popular sport in the country even more so than the NFL if they just had a playoff system, and all it would take is a simple 8 team playoff to do that. Since they don't yes most people like it, however it is why for a lot of people it is not the favorite. I know it is my third favorite to watch behind the NFL and College Basketball. It's only ahead of MLB because I like football more.

Imagine having the playoff system that I listed above. College football still makes the same amount of money and probably more, and we crown a true champion. Then if Bama and LSU are definitely the two best like we think, then they both would be able to win their games to meet each other in the finals. However then this way it not just opinion putting the two teams together anymore. Teams from all over the country in BCS conferences and even Boise State possibly with an at large would have a shot to truly play their way to a championship and not have opinion decide it.

I think we will see some form of plus one format in the next few years. That's just my opinion.

Here is my idea for Plus One that doesn't disrupt the bowls. As soon as the regular season ends, you determine the four finalists. Seed 1 hosts seed 4 and seed 2 hosts seed 3. You play those games the very next week at the end of the season. That gives you the final two and they play in the last bowl game. The two teams that lose in the semis play in whatever bowl they get invited to.

As long as you're not talking about getting rid of conference championship games I can go with that. There is no way the conferences will give up their championship games. It's too much money.

I personally think the most likely scenario will be the addition of one more BCS game. Let's say the Cotton Bowl. The bowls will chose they're selections much as they do now and 10 teams will play. After the 5 games are over there will be one more BCS ranking. Then the top two teams will play, and everyone will still be arguing over who the top two teams are.

The problem with that is once again it gets down to people's opinions deciding it. Have an 8 team playoff, with the 6 BCS conference champions getting automatic bids, and then two at larges. Then if someone doesn't get an at large they have only theirselves to blame because they would at least know then winning their conference gets them in. As of right now we could get 6 undefeated teams in the 6 BCS conferences, or better chance of 6 one loss teams in them. Yet its not like that would guarntee that would get them in, it would be opinion again which sucks. Make it to where teams know exactly what will get them in. Take this whole opinion stuff out when it comes to crowning a National Champion, this way schools know exactly what they have to do.

WOW, relentless, and yet the game on Monday will be played..."LET IT BE WRITTEN, LET IT BE DONE!

My Opinion is..."I can now spell opinion without looking it up"

Would ND automatically get in since they are part of the BCS BS?

Wow someone is getting a little restless all because I say there should be a playoff. I know your team is in the National Title, and never once did I say that I thought a team like Oklahoma State was better. It's like you think I am out to attack your poor ole little Alabama team or something. I know this whole opinion thing worked out great for your team this year, so of coarse your fine with just play the game. However just because they are going to play the game, doesn't mean it is right. The whole system is screwed up and that is what is wrong with college football. Shoot if Bama wins in a close game that is still going to leave all kinds of questions about who should be National Champions. As a lot of the AP voters said they still might vote LSU #1 even if Bama wins. Guess what a playoff system would leave basically no doubt. We would know that the teams had to play their way to the Championship, and not play their way just through a conference to a Championship. If Bama was in a playoff system and made their way back to LSU in the Championship. Then most people would not have much to say about it then.

The game will be played and it should be a great game. Actually I think your Bama team will win it actually. However it still doesn't change that we should determine a Champion based on opinions. Let it be played out on the field, when every team has an equal chance which every team does not right now.

Not really, just seeing you repeat yourself and not realizing how the system works wether its right or not its what we have.. Teams behind LSU had a chance to get there before Bama and failed, Bama won out the voters (system we have always had (AP/UPI) picked the rite two teams.

My problem with your comments is you say one thing, but blast Bama "getting CRAP beat by Utah, but you missed the next season against Texas. I'd gladly get the "Crapped" beat out of us if we were guarnteed to win the NC the next.

How do I not know how the system works. I know perfectly how it works, and its the system I have a problem with. I know how Bama ended up in the title game, and your right with this crappy system they have in place it is understandable for why they are in. However if Bama didn't want people questioning rather they should be in, then they should have went undefeated theirselves.

As for the Utah beating the crap comment out of them, it is very relevent. People say it is apparent by watching the teams play that Bama is better than Oklahoma State. Well I used the Utah example as an example how stupid it is to base things off an opinion. Even though Bama had a team that was VERY GOOD and ended up being a National Title team that year, they still got beat and handled pretty good by a team in Utah even though Bama looked better than them. I understand everything about how the system is, I am simply explaining how the system is sucks and stupid how we determine things based on opinion. Apparently you take offense to that since your little ole Bama team is one of the teams who made it on opinion.
