Finals from the Ashland Invitational Tournament

Great game. Just got home. Great to see Goldie and Mr. Humphrey in the gym tonight. Rowan never quit, made it very interesting down the stretch. Rowan forced a turnover by GRC trying to inbounds after a score which turned into points, then got a 5sec call on the next one. Made it very close. I was very impressed with Bopper Stenzil in this tournament. Terrific ballhandler. Rogers and Fatkin are also very solid. Good squad. Congratulations to Coach Humphrey and the GRC boys on a solid tournament.

Congrats to GRC, they look to be the top team in the 10th at the moment.

Can't argue with that. They're playing very well.

Gotta love that Clark Co team. They're all heart. Love the way Bopper Stenzel plays the game. Fadkin and Rogers also do a lot of good things out there.

Big win for the Cards.

Just got in from the game. Doc so glad to see you and meet your family. You are blessed my friend. Yes Bopper is a terrific ball handler, never gets rattled. He had lots of pressure last night and tonight, very smooth player. Fatkin is a load inside, hard for many team to contain him. Charlie played well and did a great job defensively. Vancleeve is our defensive specialist. Man does he do a great job, night in and night out. Howard improving each game, so proud of him and all the Cards!!!!

As stated it was a awsome game. Just love this team. They never give up and play with so much heart. What is impressive is we have played 14 games and 13 have been on the road. Just call us the" Road Wariors". Congrats to all the boys that made the all tourney team and Adam Fatkin for being named MVP.

I want to also mention of the class that was shown between these two teams. When Rowan Co was awarded their trophy, all of GRC's players stood and clapped for them. Then when GRC was awarded theirs, Rowans players did the same. Very proud of both teams of showing such class.

Enjoyed the game very much. Great win! Congrats to Bopper, Charlie Rogers and MVP Adam Fatkin on being named to all tourney team. As Goldie said two classy teams. Have seen a lot of runnerup teams that barely even watched the awards ceremony but the Rowen team showed some real class and it started with Wing.

What an outstanding job by the new guy, Taylor Howard, to step in and knock down the two free throws to seal the game.

Congrats to GRC.

Congrats to GRC.

So very proud of him. He just gets better each game.

Didn't GRC lose to Montgomery?

Cardinals cozy at AIT

ASHLAND — George Rogers Clark is seriously running the risk of never receiving another invite to the Ashland Invitational Tournament.

Cardinals coach Scott Humphrey continues to wear out his welcome at Anderson Gymnasium, where he is now 16-0 as a coach and 3-for-3 in AIT championships.

The latest was another close one. His Cardinals, who have clearly shed the “surprise” label, edged Rowan County, 50-48, to nab the 57th annual AIT title on Thursday. It marked Clark County’s fourth such championship.

“Their mental toughness is as good as I’ve been around,” Humphrey said. “They had any excuse they wanted to use — 14 games played, and only one home game; seven games in 10 days; we’ve been on that bus all of December ... they just step up to every challenge.”

The Cardinals (12-2) again used stingy defense to win yet another tournament, their second in 10 days — they took the Whitaker Bank Fort Harrod Classic before Christmas.

Adam Fatkin, who notched 17 points and nine rebounds against the Vikings, earned Most Valuable Player honors.Bopper Stenzel had 18 points for the Cardinals, who sank their final four free throws to help put Rowan County away.

Thacker yelled from the sideline, “Find a way! Find a way!” with three-plus minutes to go. While the Vikings made a valiant effort, they couldn’t find a way to slow the clock down.

“We just ran out of time,” Wing said.

Rowan County played only seven players, with Townsend, Wing and Jason Egan playing 30-plus minutes apiece. Townsend and Wing didn’t sit. Egan scored 12 points.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Donovan Halsel (Warren Central), Rodney Gross (Woodford County), Carl Cummins (Lincoln County), Dave Greenwell (Woodford County), Ryan Whetsel (Ashland), Mason Monroe (Pendleton County), Adam Wing (Rowan County), Corey Gregg (Ashland), Charlie Rogers (G.R. Clark), D.J. Townsend (Rowan County), Bopper Stenzel (G.R. Clark), Adam Fatkin (G.R. Clark).

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Adam Fatkin (G.R. Clark).

Didn't GRC lose to Montgomery?

Yes. but I think Clark is playing better ball at this point in time.
