December 21, 201114 yr Ferrell is great in roles like what he played on SNL, Old School, or in Eastbound and Down. He absolutely cannot carry a movie and his jokes begin to fall flat. I'm in love with Deschanel, but even with that included it simply is a bad movie. I heard a debate one time about Will Ferrell in that it takes someone in a strong supporting role or he being in a supporting role for it to be a good movie. He can just wear you down over time as a lead. Elf I believe grossed really well. It had some other star power with Ferrell.
December 21, 201114 yr He absolutely cannot carry a movie and his jokes begin to fall flat. That is something that I completely agree with. I don't really care for him being the main character. I do like some parts of Elf, but I am not quite to throw it in to watch. Definitely a few funny lines here and there, but overall I think its vastly overrated. This time of year girls blowup my newsfeed with comments and quotes about Elf.
December 21, 201114 yr Author I thought Elf was funny. Over the top sometimes but funny. And I thought Fred Claus was also funny.
December 21, 201114 yr Butchered a beloved Dr. Seuss character. The TV special from the '60's can't be topped, not sure why they felt the need to make that one. I agree! 1. A Christmas Story 2. National Lampoons Family Christmas 3 White Christmas 4. Grinch - The original cartoon 5. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

I'm in love with Deschanel, but even with that included it simply is a bad movie. This is exactly how I feel. Ferrell plays the same role every single time. It was entertaining in Anchorman, somewhat amusing in Talledega Nights and extremely abrasive in everything since. I feel the same way about Deschanel, she is almost the exact same character every single time. I grow weary of such things.

December 21, 201114 yr Elf is a flat-out funny and entertaining Christmas movie! I couldn't care less whether Ferrell and Zeschanel play essentially the same role in every movie (he does; can't say I've seen her in much else to know) or whether it matches the high quality movie standards of such Christmas fare as It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, or ... Die Hard. It's just plain funny. (Buddy when he goes to work in the mail room): "This place reminds me of Santa's workshop. Except it smells like mushrooms and everyone looks like they want to hurt me." 2. Christmas Story 3. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 4. Bad Santa 5. It's a Wonderful Life

No arguments there, I just happen to LOVE that character.
December 21, 201114 yr I really recommend watching CHRISTMAS STORY, not A Christmas Story with BB Gun. The one made in Finland sold at Sams Club and can be seen on Netflix. It is a very awesome movie. One of my favorites. May make you cry.
December 21, 201114 yr I didn't find Anchorman to be entertaining. I didn't care for it at all and always found myself vastly in the minority.
