I think it's a doggone shame that the NCAA did not intervene and overturn this garbage. Martelli is on a power trip and the NCAA is being an enabler. Let the kid play ball. Shame on Martelli and shame on the NCAA. They both got this one wrong. The family needs to call Steve Kroft.

That would certainly help this situation make more sense. I kind of think it would be funny if that wound up being true because the way this is written, the kid looks like an innocent angel.

Well, the kid wrote it, so you could hardly be surprised it portrays him positively.

 

I've read elsewhere that Martelli supposedly told him that he would not be in the plans for this season anyway. His role was very minimal last year after having started the year before. Sounds to me like whatever else was going on, the kid was being marginalized and told that would continue. Why would Martelli even care if he was there?

What bothers me is that he gave him permission to talk to other programs, then when he finally makes his decision, he won't sign the release. That's just flat out dirty. I don't really care what the kid did in the past because Martelli kept him on the team, and he graduated. He fulfilled his commitment IMO.

More people talking about what GT alluded to. Another kid apparently was kicked off the team for having a stolen laptop. The kid in question here was involved "peripherally" whatever that means.

Martelli looks like an idiot here. If the kid wasn't a key piece to your team, then who cares? Let him go somewhere he can play.

Regardless of the "other" situation the student athlete has fulfilled the academic requirements set forth by the NCAA to be eligible for this waiver. For St Joes to state that this was for athletic reasons and not academic as a reason for not signing off is self serving. I wonder if they ask the same questions of the undergrad student athletes who transfer to St Joes?

So we take everything the kid says at face value? Sorry if I'm a little more skeptical than that.

 

Sounds like St Joe's is being childish, but there's certainly another side to this story. And the NCAA heard the appeal and denied it, they've got the final say anyway (not that I usually/ever agree with the NCAA).
