Have read them all a couple times and really enjoyed them. Like others, started reading them along with my kids. Waivered a little with the 5th book. Put it aside for a year, then went back and started again.

Not for a single day in my adult life have I ever pretended to be anything else... and it's "re-reading" LotR... much more impressive when it comes to tallying nerd cred.

I would argue that yes, reading LotR is superior in that respect to watching but as a highly-trained English major, I have a bias I'm unable to hide.

Twilight books

I re-read the series everytime a new movie or book came out. Absolutely love them. The first few books I've probably read at least 10 times.

Simply can't get into them.

Quick reads? Since they are 400+ page books, I don't know if I would call them quick reads. But they are relatively easy reads IMO and if you want to sit down and read one over a weekend, you should have no problem doing that.

 

Not bad, nothing like Martin or Tolkein in the fantasy realm. Even the later ones which are rather large read pretty quickly.

 

I'm tempted to read them, or at least one to get a feel for it, but I've got so much other stuff to read I really don't want to devote too much time to it. Unless it really blows me away then I might put the series at the top of the queue.

Do they have to be read in a certain order? If not, is one of them considered the best? I've never even seen any of the movies. Not really stuff I enjoy, but I am willing to crack open one of the books and see if I might like it.
