Or someone that realizes that a contract like that can set up his family for the next few generations. Why hate on a guy for being successful enough for people to think he's worth that kind of money? I personally don't think any one is worth a quarter of a billion dollars but can't fault him for cashing in when a team does.

 

No kidding. Pro owners have no loyalty to players, only to their ability to draw a gate and contribute ro wins. Make as much as you can for your family lineage. Think the fans care about former players' financials after they retire? Hardly. You have to do what is best for you.

IMO, that is one of the weakest excuses to dislike an athlete as much as LeBron is disliked. He gave millions to the Boys and Girls Club and took 15 seconds to make "The Decision". The rest was crap done by ESPN. ESPN is the one who should be disliked.

Right, the same way high school kids announce their decisions on ESPN. No problems there. ESPN made it a production, IMO, and not a press conference.

I don't have it wrong. He said ESPN was the one to be disliked and that is not the case. People don't hate Lebron from that one thing. It's the combination on many little things. "The Decision" just made it easier for everyone. It really doesn't matter who had the idea to broadcast it.

Bill Simmons who works for ESPN said ESPN approached LBJ's people about having a special announcing where he was going over a year before the show aired.

 

Exactly. People that liked him outside of Cavs fans still like him. People that hated him hate him more. "The Decision" is a non factor.

Thursday, Albert Pujols signed a 10-year, $254 million offer with the Los Angeles Angels that contained no deferred money, as well as a 10-year personal services contract following that deal. The Cardinals' last offer to Pujols was for 10 years and $210 million, with $30 million deferred.

 

"The offer that people have seen on television I want to tell you what, listeners especially, had that offer been given to us with a guarantee, we would have the (Cardinals) bird on our back," Deidre Pujols told 99.1 Joy FM, a St. Louis-area Christian station that received some of its initial funding from Albert Pujols.

 

Deidre Pujols, speaking with interviewer Sandi Brown, who is her friend, said the couple initially had no plans to ever leave St. Louis or the Cardinals, the only team the first baseman had ever played for.

 

"When it all came down, I was mad. I was mad at God because I felt like all the signs that had been played out through the baseball field, our foundation, our restaurant, the Down Syndrome Center, my relationships, my home, my family close," Deidre Pujols told the station. "I mean, we had no reason, not one reason, to want to leave. People were deceived by the numbers."

Mad at God b/c her husband didn't get that extra $20 mil from the Cards. When your wife becomes your public mouth piece regarding your contract situation...well, that's not a good thing.

She also claimed the Cards first offer was 5 years for $130 million.

After reading this I'm glad he didn't resign with the Cardinals. I can't believe she said it was God's fault. If they didn't have one reason to leave then why did they? So I guess God should have told the Cards to give them a guarantee. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt but now I say it was all about the money.

Maybe she was just jealous that God has been spending all his time with Tebow, instead of checking up on her husband's contract situation.

I read somewhere where the Marlins are now saying that their offer was a little over $200 million, not the $270 million monster that was being reported. Could it be that Pujols' agent was exaggerating a bit? Isn't that "deceiving by the numbers?"
