2011 KHSAA 1A State Championship: Hazard 24 Mayfield 6

Featured Replies

Exactly, you don't have to be in attendance to watch a game now days. The fact that someone would question that is just silly.

Congrats to Hazard on the shocker.

If you figure a 16-week season, that averages out to between 18-19 games per week. That's a lot of football watching. I don't doubt NCF, but I'm also not surprised at the question.

I played a whole season with a torn meniscus, it hurts, but it does not hamper your playing ability. Just saying.

To me it looked like he was playing very well on defense with the injury. And, I agree, D1 LB, probably not a D1 RB.

From listening to the announcers, they couldn't say enough good things about Jackson on the defensive side of the ball. The were constantly raving about his ability to tackle in the open field. They said the guy never missed an open-field tackle.

I was really impressed by Hazard's defensive and offensive line play. That was the difference in the game. A healthy Mayfield team would no doubt have made it a better game, but I have a feeling Hazard was not going to be denied on this day.

Congratulations to the Bulldogs. I was very happy to see them win and it brought back the same feelings we had when Belfry won their first championship. I hope they celebrate for a long time in Hazard. Coach Dixon is doing a masterful job there and the whole program and community should be commended and proud.

I don't think he will see the field on offense in college. I don't agree about the torn meniscus. Your play is affected when you can't cut like before. That being said I don't think it would have mattered if he didn't have the torn meniscus. Hazard's D-line was that good.

I'm not disputing either opinion, but I would like to add one point for consideration. I think the timing of the injury was critical. Whether you can play (and play well) with the injury is a debate I'll leave to others, but I'm certain that there has to be some adjustment. With the injury occurring in the state semi-finals, Jackson did not have the luxury of adjusting and learning to play with the injury. Perhaps if he'd suffered the injury mid-season, he'd have had a better feel for playing with the injury and been more effective with it. As it was, according to what I've read on here, he didn't practice, so the finals game on Friday was the first time he'd played with the torn meniscus. I feel like that had to have been a factor.

Very happy to see the Bulldogs finally break through and bring the trophy back to Hazard. Congratulations to the team and the community. It is very exciting to say the least.

... and not to get off the thread topic, there really needs to be some kind of mesh netting around that end of the stadium like around the tennis courts. The years of free football should end now.

Congrats to the Hazard football team, next year just lay off the fire alarm at the hotel... some of us are still sleeping at 6 in the morning.

Cardinals, looking forward to next year. It should be a fun ride in 2012. Thanks to the seniors for making Mayfield football what it is today, you will be missed. A new winning streak starts in Bowling Green next year

This comment is uncalled for. Did you see a Hazard player, in his jersey, pull the fire alarm. I can assure you no player pulled the fire alarm.

I've tried all weekend to ignore some of the post on here concerning injured players for Mayfield during the championship game. To be fair, most of these posts haven't been made by Mayfield fans and for the most part, the Mayfield folks have been nothing but a class act in congratulating our Bulldogs on the championship victory. Does any one on here really think Hazard was completely healthy for this game? Zach Blanton played this game with two injured shoulders and cramps in both legs. Austin Johnson has played the last three weeks with a strained achilles. Josh Meehan played with a broke hand in a cast the last three weeks. And there are several other players who were injured in some form or another. So give the Mayfield was injured crap a rest. Everyone is banged up after playing a full 14/15 game season. Hazard was simply the better coached and prepared team this year. Just as Mayfield was last year. I want to congratulate Mayfield on a tremendous season and great run over the last 2 years. Also, Congratulations to the Hazard Bulldogs, 2011 Class A State Football Champions! No one will ever be able to take that away from you guys!

This is what I posted in the prediction thread.

"I don't think this game is going to be easy. Hazard throw and runs the ball well. We are a little banged up and that has me worried."

Well said UKfAN1...........DITTO!!!!!!!!

How long has Coach Dixon been at Hazard? I asked this in the 53-2 thread also but maybe someone here can answer.

9 years with a record of 91-28.

You need to take your gripe up with the front desk at La Quinta, they stated it as FACT. Gosh, security cameras are such great tools. And according to your reasoning, if you don't have a Hazard football jersey on, you're not a Hazard football player. What?

Edited by WHO'S NEXT?

Kids sometimes do things that are not smart, let's not dwell on it and blow it out of proportion. Pranks like this have been pulled for generations and it doesn't really matter if the culprit was a Hazard player or not. If he was then I am sure Coach Dixon will deal with it and hopefully the young man's parents will as well. If not then hopefully the person in charge of that youngster will handle it.

Either way, this isn't the thread to bring it up, IMO.

Thanks. Coach Dixon is obviously doing a great job at Hazard. His teams are always very solid and well coached. It is great for him and the program at Hazard that they now have a title.

My gripe is with you. You didn't need to post this on a message board, in my opinion. Just trying to make our team look bad with some sour grapes. The jersey comment was evidently over your head. How could anyone possibly know who pulled the fire alarm unless they were seen pulling the alarm. Couldn't anyone reasonably suggest maybe someone from Mayfield pulled the alarm to disrupt our team. Anyhow, I apologize for the alarm in the event it was someone from Hazard. I feel very confident it was not a football player. I'm through with this discussion.

I agree.
