November 28, 201114 yr Maybe it's just me being old and crotchety but man oh man I'm getting tired of the continued rushing of Christmas and the dismissal of the meaning of Thanksgiving. I can't tell you how many people I know that use Thanksgiving as the "start of Christmas." Why are we rushing Christmas? Shouldn't we at least wait until December? Who's with me?
November 28, 201114 yr Im with you Clyde, Christmas music all day long on radio in first of October and all the junk that goes with Christmas. I personally hate the commercialization that has taken over Christmas and IMO ruins the the true meaning and spirt of it.
November 28, 201114 yr Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, so I am definitely on board. But I know that it is a losing battle when Macy's has Christmas decorations up before Halloween even!

November 28, 201114 yr Author Advent started Sunday, that's the beginning of the Christmas season for me. There are two Christmas seasons. One is the one that you mentioned and the one that you and I practice from a Catholic viewpoint and a Christian viewpoint. I agree that it starts THAT season. My original post dealt more with the Santa Claus version of Christmas. I don't start shopping and putting up trees and lights just because Advent starts.

November 28, 201114 yr You can thank Wal-Mart and JC Penney. They were one of the first companies to actively market day after Thanksgiving shopping deals. In my town, I saw a Christmas aisle in the local Dollar General Store a week before Halloween.

November 28, 201114 yr The Owensboro WalMart had christmas decorations and trees on display starting with the last week of September. I'm not really fond of what Christmas has become so it made me want to hurl.

Believe it or not, people have been complaining about this since I was a youngster. I was born in 1959.
November 29, 201114 yr If people didn't buy the Christmas trees, decorations and other Christmas items early no retailer would put them out. But when Lowes starts putting Christmas out in September, Walmart follows as to not get left out of the market, then K-mart and Target do the same...it is a vicious retail cycle that is driven by....Us the Customers...if we didn't buyit they would waste space on it in Sept and Oct. As for me My Christmas Season started Sunday night with the Hanging of the Greens at church and the begining of Advent.
