It was indeed a bang bang play in the end zone and it's certainly a call that different people are going to see differently. Noel told me after the game he thought it was clearly interference. If it had been called interference it probably would have been an argument from the Mayfield side and when it wasn't it certainly was open to an argument from the other side. Penalties were just heat of the moment stuff in an emotionally charged and extremely well-played game. For what it's worth when a kid from Mayfield got hurt and had to be carted off, Noel walked all the way across the field to shake the kid's hand and wish him well.

Yeah, but they don't get to consider whether or not he would have caught it. Its whether he was interfered with or not.Again, I'm ok with that call. I just think they were bad all around. You don't see too many flags picked up and it happened twice tonight.

I really didn't like how long it took them to blow the whistle on a few of the run plays. I thought a player from either side was going to get hurt because of it.

What happened?

 

Did the Beechwood players/coaches have legit beefs or was it out of control emotions during a tough loss?

 

The kid was emotional and let his emotions get the best of him. You could tell that it was not the norm for the young man. Beechwood is a class program and both teams showed good sportsmanship all night.

Hats off to Beechwood. What an amazing team. The tigers Played very fast, a lot more team speed than I thought they would have. They really laid some licks out there to. Nussbaum is a man child. Congrats to our Cardinals, what a great win over a great team. Passing game was off tonight, but you have to give the tigers some of the credit for that. J Jackson is just a beast, He refuses to go down. It really hurt the Cardinals when Labront pulled a hamstring on the first series. That was a big blow. Go get that big trophy now Cardinals! Awesome game that ended bad when some emotions got out of hand. Props to both teams.

Both teams left it all on the field and should be proud of themselves! It's a shame that the crew in stripes didn't live up to the others involved in the game, IMO!

Like I said some calls you get, some you don't. I personally, was over the call about the time I got home from the game that night. However I know some that still "belly ache" about it. As for the basketball game, I took in the Holy Cross Indians dismantling of Somerset has they move on to the STATE FINALS, unlike your team and mine.

I think the play occurred somewhere between the goal line and the 5 ... in the heat of the moment, I didn't see where the play was, but a guy that was charting the game told me Vocke was at the 4.

 

There were three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties called ... my guess is there was one on the coach and two on players. I thought a player from Beechwood that was yelling and gesturing might get another one while the officials were marking off the third flag.

One post I must make before bedtime. The penalties at the end? Yes Beechwood fans, it wasn't our proudest moment and I understand not liking it. I doubt there is one person who likes it. I appreciate the understanding expressed in posts by the Mayfield fans. The fact is football is a game of emotion and those young men just saw that call (or non call) end their lifelong dream. A dream they had worked for so hard over the past 4 years. The penalties following the non call resulted from emotions out of control and had no impact on the game's outcome. The player that the first call was on is one of the most humble, respectful and fine young men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing at Beechwood. He deserves much better than to have that end game incident blown up here or anywhere else.

 

I will tell everyone that in this game I saw more sportsmanship by both sides than I can ever recall at a football game. Players on both sides lending a hand and helping the other team's players up at the end of plays and even a pat on the helmet. Coach Rash walking to the other side of the field to give Mayfield's injured player encouragement and recognition as he was being carted from the field. The fans on both sides were great. The mutual respect displayed at the end of the game on the field in comments by coaches, players and fans was genuine and much appreciated. Please don't let what happened at the end of the game detract from or be anywhere close to a reflection of what happened at War Memorial Stadium tonight. Let's focus our comments on the classic high school football game the players and coaches gave us tonight.

Unfortunate situation for Beechwood. For NewCath that game was the one that woke them up and helped them dominate in the playoffs on the road to a State Championship. For Beechwood it happened in the playoffs and unfortunately ended their season and their quest for a State title. Congratulations to Beechwood on a great season.

I'll tell you this much, both teams gave it 110% for the full 48 minutes with neither giving an inch to the other. And it was done with fine sportsmanship and respect from both sides all night long. The situation at the end was much more out of frustration of the season coming to an end right before there eyes and nothing more, nothing less. As VOR stated in an earlier post, that incident shouldn't deter the efforts put forth thruout a tough, hard fought and well played game by both teams.
