What happened?

 

Did the Beechwood players/coaches have legit beefs or was it out of control emotions during a tough loss?

bang bang play at the end. Vocke thought it was interference, I didnt think so but it was very close. Then he and they coaches went wild, tons of penalties, not how it should have ended.

The issue was a no call on a pass interference. Without benefit of video evidence I saw a Bang-bang play that could have been called either way. If they had called it MF would have said the refs handed BW the game. I do want to see it again.

Btw... The worst playoff officiating crew I have seen.

I dont think the receiver had anyway he was going to catch the ball on that play. There were 2 Cardinal defenders right there that knocked it away and a 3rd behind those that collided with the receiver just as the ball was tipped. Look, it was 4th down, the clock running down, Beechwood out of timeouts, with everything coming down to that one play. Had they have called it, Beechwood would have gotten the ball with 1st down inside the 7 yd line with 20 something seconds left. No guarantee they would have scored, but, would have sure added to the drama down the stretch, so, you can see the Tigers at that moment being very emotional and it coming out. The 1st because the receiver felt he was interfered with, the next 2 I think more out of frustration and hurt. After that play, apparently the Tigers kept up those emotions thus causing the 3 back to back unsportsmanlike penalties, but, in reality, that didn't matter as Mayfield only had to take a knee once and run out the clock, be it on the 20 yd line or midfield.

It was indeed a bang bang play in the end zone and it's certainly a call that different people are going to see differently. Noel told me after the game he thought it was clearly interference. If it had been called interference it probably would have been an argument from the Mayfield side and when it wasn't it certainly was open to an argument from the other side. Penalties were just heat of the moment stuff in an emotionally charged and extremely well-played game. For what it's worth when a kid from Mayfield got hurt and had to be carted off, Noel walked all the way across the field to shake the kid's hand and wish him well.

I think I answered that. I think it was correct either way.

It would have been a 15 yd penalty from the prior spot of the foul and they were on the 20-21 yd line, I believe on the prior play, so, they would have had the ball around the 5 or 6 yd line with under 30 secs to go. Most likely they would have had to have spiked the ball once the clock started and would have had about 22 to 23 secs left with 3 plays to try and get it in.

 

As far as the officiating went, I think they missed a few calls both ways and then didn't pull the flag on a couple they should have and that also went both ways. I don't think the officials were one sided, at all, just missed a few and I don't think it cost either team the win or loss.

Rash is a good guy, you tell that he is. I dont agree that it was clearly pass interference

Now Beechwood knows how NewCath felt after that "bullcrap" call to end last year's regular season finale. Some calls you get, some you don't.

I am sorry to hear that's how it ended. Refs kept flags in their pockets most of the first half for birds game then they couldn't tuck them in long enough before throwing them again. It seemed to get ugly throwing warning flags against both benches. It sounds like they were pretty much the same at all the games then. I feel better.
