That's awesome that they travel that way! Garrard has a very small bleacher section, but most Garrard fans stand along the field, which personally I like. Should be the biggest crowd in history I believe. With the traveling of Belfry, and Garrard being the only area team still playing ball. Boyle, Lincoln, Mercer, and Danville fans will have people in attendance I would believe. Should be an exciting atmosphere for these young men!

I think a lot of people are basing their opinions on the name on the front of the jersey which is much understandable. Garrard County has loads of speed, inside and outside, and can throw the deep ball at any time. The only thing that I worry about for Garrard is stopping the belly plays, and not getting sucked in too far on what they think is a belly, and then Belfry turns it around the outside for a long score.

 

I'm basing my opinion on seeing Garrard play against Danville and watching Belfry on film. Garrard is not physical enough up front for the Pirates and they do not have a speed advantage either. It won't be close after halftime.

The physical size up front is my biggest concern. AverageJoe, you and I talked after the Danville game how the Admirals were able to get big and wear down Garrard. The Garrard defense has made some adjustments since then, going with more quickness. But my biggest worry is that Belfry will lean on Garrard with 15 play drives where they consistently get 4 yards per carry and keep the Lions offense off the field. I'm sure that is something being worked on this week by the Garrard staff.

If Garrard can get a few three and outs early and get their offense in rhythm I think they can hang around and have a chance to win. What I worry about is if Belfry goes on a couple of long, time-consuming drives that Garrard's offense will feel like they have to force things and lead to turnovers. In our game with them last season Somerset came up empty on a couple of trips to the red zone early that could have put the Pirates in a 21-0 hole. Instead, Belfry was able to play their game and wore the Jumpers down. The biggest advantage I see for Garrard is the fact that they are at home and it is a long trip for the Pirates. I know that school is out on Friday and that will make the trip a little bit easier but it is still a long ride. If Garrard can hit them early before they really get their legs under them then and get some confidence then they have a chance. But the Golden Lions will have to convert their chances and not leave points on the board like we did. If they fall behind it could be a long, long night.

I have nothing but respect for Coach Haywood...and Belfry is an excellent football team...but since some of their fans are complaining about seating, I'm going with Garrard 22-20...Wouldn't it be something if every school had the funds to have facilities like they do at Belfry!!!

I still can't get used to Belfry having great facilities. For many years, our football facilities were so lacking. When the county built a new Belfry High School, they did build ample seating, as I am sure the new Garrard field will have also when it is complete. I think some of us have been a little spoiled over the last few years.

 

As far as I am concerned, personally I don't care where they play. I am excited about this semifinal game and I will be happy to stand around the field somewhere if that is what it takes. If Belfry brings a large crowd and the bulk of them have to stand around the field, maybe we can create enough noise to make it like a home game. Instead of complaining about it, we should just embrace it and enjoy the ride. I'd definitely rather be standing and cheering on my Pirates than sitting home while somebody else plays in the semifinals.

Certainly. That is THE key to the game. I know Garrard knows its coming, they just have to be able to stop it.
