I think a lot of people are basing their opinions on the name on the front of the jersey which is much understandable. Garrard County has loads of speed, inside and outside, and can throw the deep ball at any time. The only thing that I worry about for Garrard is stopping the belly plays, and not getting sucked in too far on what they think is a belly, and then Belfry turns it around the outside for a long score.

 

I agree with the bolded. That is understandable, but can be dangerous to think that way this deep in the playoffs. I've nothing but respect for Garrard Co and have watched a couple of games on film. They are the real deal and they will demand a focused effort by Belfry. They definitely are capable of wining this game.

 

I do think Belfry is a favorite in the game, but not by the margin some are predicting. I think Belfry matches up well with Garrard. I think the Pirates are a little better up front and they can match the Golden Lions on speed. Depth may be the determining factor, as Belfry has worn some teams down in the 2nd half. I am going to predict that Belfry will pull out a win by a couple of touchdowns after the game being close for a half. My prediction is 34-21 Belfry.

One thing that could hurt Garrad is all the rain, we have already had close to 2" of rain in Danville, and quite a bit more forecasted for Tuesday and Wednesday. Does Garrad Co. have any tarps for the field? From past history Belfry likes to play in the mud!!!:lol::eek::scared::eyeonyou:

Like my uncle always said, both teams have to play in the mud. I certainly believe weather can impact the outcome of a game. But, I've seen it adversely affect both running and passing teams alike.

One key injury is Belfry's Soph CB Sani Warren. Warren had a great game against Breathitt with several PBU's and one of the better defensive plays you will see when he literally stole the ball away from a Bobcat in the open field. Towards the end of the game he injured his ankle. He still returned to the game and I expect him to play Friday, but I doubt he will be 100%.

 

Belfry has a pair of very solid CB's in Thacker and Warren, with Warren being the more athletic of the two. I would have anticipated Warren having the responsibility of covering McCoy in a man situation, but now it may be Thacker. The other impact of this injury is that Warren is the backup QB and potentially who would be in the game if Belfry were behind a couple scores late and had to open the offense. Williams is more than capable as a passer, but Warren is the better fit out of the shotgun and the more natural passer of the two.

 

The way Belfry plays defense rarely puts their CB's on an island, and with Robinson and Dixon at Safety they are sure to have plenty of quality help. Nonetheless, something to keep an eye on.

My wife and I usually get to Rockcastle for our games at about 5-5:30 to hold our same spot on a hill we like(We can park there behind where we sit if it rains or is really cold for spells). You may want to do this as there really is limited seating for a big game like this and the large crowd attnding. My sons and I attended the Clay vs. Garrard game which was Garrard's first this year and it was packed except for a few seats near the band. We watched most of the four overtime game from behind the south endzone. There was what I would call "comfortable" seating for the Clay County people with open areas to stretch out in, but, not a whole lot more. They could open the soccer field up for fans above the field, and shoot the fireworks from the baseball field or the far end of the soccer field....just a thought. I may attend this game myself as I live very close to it.

That's a good point about moving the fireworks. What they would do if the moved them, would probably be moving them to the softball field which is kind of behind the north end zone. I haven't heard what they were going to do yet though.

I don't think they will open up the soccer field, just because that would require another gate to sell tickets. I'm also not sure if they would be able to provide seating there. I suspect the administration will end up placing a rope around the entire field and then allow standing behind it if necessary.

I'm anxious to see if Garrard throws the ball more this week. Billy Abney has thrown for around 1,700 yards and 20 touchdowns with only 7 interceptions. He hasn't thrown it much the last couple weeks, however, because the running game has been so effective there hasn't been much need for passing. I think that could change Friday.

All I can say is that Garrard and Rockcastle played here in 1995 and it was the largest crowd I've ever seen at Dyehouse Stadium. Guessing, I would put the number at 5,000 people. The stadium/grounds held it fine, although everyone was snug. I still am confident that everyone will fit fine come Friday night.
