Should Highlands Bring the Cannon Back as a Statue

Featured Replies

I was thinking to myself earlier and remembered the good ole days when Highlands shot off the cannon after each score. It's a real shame that you guys can't do it anymore, because that's one Highlands tradition that I always loved.

BTW, that is coming from a CovCath grad. I just have the stance that if you didn't want the cannon to go off, don't let them score.

Wonder what the chances would be of getting the cannon to the game this Friday night? NOT TO USE IT, but just having it there for the Highlands/Cov. Cath. game would be pretty special. NO INTENTION TO START A CANNON CONTROVERSY HERE.

No keyplayer not here we go :) For symbolic purposes only. I thought I made that pretty clear.

Have the team pat it on their way out? Have any of these players seen it in their high school careers?

I know I changed a few extra diapers when it off. But to answer your question I believe this senior class has had some pictures made with it. It would be cool to have for the last game this senior class will ever play at Highlands.

I always thought that would be cool too. It really is an icon, like the Liberty Bell or any other object that was once used, but now only inspires.

Why not make it an inoperable statue? Fear of vandals?

It would probably be a prime target.

I second that emotion!

Regarding the cannon, I went back and read a couple of threads from 2008 when it was retired and a couple people said that the cannon is not owned by the school. So, to place it at the field on a permanent basis would require the owner's cooperation, right?

Probably not going to be a problem.

Sounds like a great idea to others . I concur.

I always thought it should be incorporated into the game. Maybe something like running it onto the field or something.
