I admit over and over that they are the better teams. I have not disputed that factor. All I'm saying is to act like its impossible for HC to beat either doesn't make sense. These are two rivalry games. More often than not they are usually pretty close games.

 

On paper in 2000 CCH was number 1 in region when I played and HC wasn't even top 10, but we still beat them. If you took position by position outside of Josh Beiting we were outmatched. But we still won.

 

In games like HC vs Holmes and HC vs CCH and CCH vs Holmes. Alot of the times what should happen doesn't always happen. That was my point and everyone freaked out.

Holmes obviously causes matchup problems for most teams, but I think Busse for one can guard Hill Or Edmundson, and Steenken will back down from no one. Giwa can be of help against Holmes also, and Scruggs will battle inside against Rice. HC, especially Scruggs and Steenken good at getting into players heads, and several on Holmes showed that is possible at Pendleton. I think it may be a better matchup than you may think.

I agree. It also depends on when you catch a team.

 

Last year NCC thumped Holy Cross in the All-A and then 2 weeks later couldn't throw it in the ocean and got drilled by HC. Then went out 2 days later and whipped Holmes. Go figure.

But just to correct a couple statement. Austin Hill is not overly quick. I don't know what Austin Hill player you watch but even people associated with Holmes will admit Hill is not a fast player. He is a strong player, but I don't think him outquicking anyone will be a problem.

I think CCH is pretty far ahead in the 9th right now, which in itself is a pretty big departure from preseason predictions. Holmes in a track meet wins hands down, but this is hoops and teamwork, fundamentals, etc. have brought down many a "superior athleticly" team!!

Also Scruggs and Rice are friends and former teamates. I don't know if there is many opposing team players Rice will go up against that will know him as well as Scruggs.

The only one talkin crazy is you BIGZIG. What matchup problems has Edmonson ever created? There's two ways that you can play Edmonson. 1) He's making his outside shot so you make sure Laible or Ryan have a hand in his face or 2) He's not hitting his shot and he's a total non-factor in the game. All he does is shoot threes it's really not to tough to defend. Also, since when does Austin Hill create matchup problems for anyone? Not saying he's a bad player but I've never really seen a team have no answer for him defensively.

Making that argument says more about the 9th than it does about HC IMO. I like HC. I like the small school "community"(for BZ) feel to it. I like a lot about them so there's no hate involved. They're just not a top team. Their guards make poor decisions. While Coach Goetz obviously knows more about his team than I do, as I said above, I question the offense. Their D is fair-to-good. Dixie got way penetration whenever they wanted.

 

Look at this way. Dixie's best player was not much of a factor - fouled out before the end of regulation - and it still took a buzzer beater to beat them(and they're decent at best).

How many times is HC going to play a team whose best player isn't a factor this year before people start realizing maybe they're defense is doing that. (See Brossart's Uebel and Cooper)

Sam Lawson is one heck-of-a basketball player and considering this was his third game back from rehabbing a broken finger on his shooting hand, it puzzles me how you could consider his performance a "non-factor"? Yea, he didn't put up 20+ points, but he did add 12 points, I believe, playing tenatively, and HC played well enough to win. Congrats to Holy Cross! Try going the local YMCA and see how long it takes you to adjust your shot with a broken finger. Dixie will struggle all season without a fulltime big man inside, but Sam will be a factor come February! Obviously Holmes and CCH clearly have the best teams in the 9th, and they deserve it. According to some of you, let's just cancel the rest of the "pre-season" and give the region to one of them. The other schools don't seem to matter, so let's cancel Dec-Feb. Tell these kids from Holy Cross, Dixie, Lloyd, NewCath, Ryle, etc. that they are wasting their time. Unfortunately, that's what I'm reading from the BGP experts. Let's remember they are kids and they do read your opinions!
