November 6, 201114 yr I got nothing on the QB because I agree. As far as the RB I'm not sure Williams in the best. But Sanders was NOT the best RB. Clemons was and Williams has more breakaway speed than Sanders and seems to be more durable. Joker had the best at QB and RB, not starting. Sure makes me wonder. Hmmm...
November 6, 201114 yr Has Morgan Newton EVER passed for as many yards as Max Smith did Sat.? Against an SEC opponent at that. Without even looking it up , I'm gonna say no.
November 6, 201114 yr As expected TTC took my post the right way. To the game: Great to see the dad of Maxwell Smith excited in the stands. Heartwarming. I'll be honest Clyde, I can see how one would think TTC was talking about race. Not sure why some people got so upset at you for asking if that's what he meant. With that said, Newton is an athlete. Let's hope he can find his way on the field elsewhere if his career at QB is over.
November 6, 201114 yr Has Morgan Newton EVER passed for as many yards as Max Smith did Sat.? Against an SEC opponent at that. Without even looking it up , I'm gonna say no. No, he has never thrown for that many. His high was the 255 he threw for against Louisville earlier this year. His high against an SEC opponent was 137 against Georgia in 2009.
November 6, 201114 yr First of all, thank you Bluto and PP for your kind words. You guys have LONG been amongst my favorites on this site. Secondly, I've PM'd Clyde to clarify my previous comment made earlier in the thread. I admit that the "nebulous" nature of my post could easily be misinterpreted as race based, but I want to ensure all that it wasn't . TTC, I just wanted to say that I agree with Bluto and PP on their words to/about you, you are a class act as is Bluto and PP and I know that you mant nothing out of line by your comment. Just for my 2 cents I thoght the one comment/question to you was out of bounds as well and I HOPE Bluto will reconsider as well. Bluto is one of BGP's very best and has meant alot to me personally on some other matters in dealing with my disease. I am certainly going to ask him to reconsider.
November 6, 201114 yr The QB situation does raise some questions, but at this point, the switch has been made to a promising freshman and the team has showed some signs of life in recent weeks. We may never know why certain decisions were made in the past and we certainly won't ever know if things could have been better. I'm just glad the team is showing some improvement because I thought 2-10 was a probability a few weeks ago. I choose to give Joker a little credit for keeping this team from laying down and mailing it in after an abysmal start.
November 6, 201114 yr As for the title of this thread, this game and some other pointsd that were brought up ......I also thought the QB change was needed and it was for the better. I am glad that the Cats got an SEC win, my opinion it will be their last. UTis very, very young but the Vols youth are far better athletes than UK's exprience, or any UK player imo. Not to mentiolned being better coached. Vandy is not great by anyones standards but much better than they usually are and definately will be ready for U.K.. There were a couple of comments about two more and getting a bowl game.....Really? I mean does another six win " Loser Bowl" really help UK? Six wins qualifying for a bowl game is an absolute JOKE! Rerwarding mediocrithy is all UK football wants I guess, it just sas well be. Playing in a bowl wih only six wins is imo not deserved and is the "Ms. Cogeniality"/"participation award" for college football . Untill U.K. puts out majior $$$ for a high profile/winning coach that can get more than a couple (at best) of SEC type talent players then they will stay right where they are at, a bad football team and a SEC dormatt! Shoud anyone thnk anythoing different then all I can say ids that to :"click your heels and say there's no place like home". One only has to look at what is or not acceptable for basketball and what is just fine for football. With the current mindset then maybe UK can move to the OVC or Sun Belt in football. They "might" win more there.
November 6, 201114 yr I am not trying to slam Joker at all. Brooks hs been the only head coach that hads gotten UK a little above mediocre zand that was for only a couple of years. The entire perception of what UK wants for football is the point.
November 6, 201114 yr :thumb: Hope to see you at the "Rock" next week!!! Go Rebels!! I'll be there in spirit and listening on my phone. My youngest son has a middle school basketball game on Friday night. That's what happens when you have a kid going to Burgin. Friday nights are insignificant to them.:madman::madman::madman:
November 6, 201114 yr So the consensus is that this SEC win gives Joker another year? This win had nothing to do with it. He would've received another year if he lost out.
November 7, 201114 yr This win had nothing to do with it. He would've received another year if he lost out. I agree. I don't think Joker was going anywhere regardless. I think this win, and the improved play from the team, should take a little of the heat off...assuming they continue that for 3 more weeks. I thought a 4 or 5 win season was a real possibility. The frustrating thing was how inept they looked for the first half of the season. It gives me some confidence in Joker that he didn't lose the team and they've seemingly turned things in the right direction. They could have easily mailed it in. Regardless, I think next year will be a big year.
November 7, 201114 yr You think so, 5Wide? If so, then Joker will have earned his money. I value your opinion so I'll see how they play the rest of the season. They don't have to win. Just compete. Beating the one SEC team that is worse than UK is fine. I will see how they finish the season before I attack Joker again though. I can refrain. For now.
