Was it the KHSAA who saw it coming?

 

Probably just a coincidence. KHSAA would not purposefully put those schools in the same district.

Scott Co won't stay within 40 points of T. No shame in it, just the way it is.

 

Its not just Scott County any team coming out to play with Trinity has to stop the offence all 4 quarters and as I said in another thread it will have to look like the LSU Alabama game. I dont or have not seen a team in KY that can do that.

Now lets make sure they keep playing each other and knock one another out of the playoffs so Bumfuzzle, Ky and Hee-Haw County can say they were in the semi finals.

 

Does it bother you that Bumfuzzle or Hee-haw says they were in the semi finals or even the finals? Honestly I'd be surprised if X, T, Manual or Male supporters have any other goal other than winning state. Maybe I look at it wrong, but if I'm going to get beat by CovCath (shudder the thought), I'd almost rather it be in week 3 than at the state game.

 

Heck, if Highlands, CovCath, LexCath, Boyle and Johnson Central could all be in one district that is as geographically close as the Super 6A District is, I'd love it. I'd love the regular season district games and we'd have to beat them anyway to eventually win state. We might as well beat them in the district and make the money off the district games during the regular season. Plus the tougher district competition would be good for the program. Perhaps the football programs at Male, X and Manual have fallen to the level that they want to be able to say they made it to the semis or the finals before they got beat by T, but I hope not. Other teams out in the state, without the tradition, heritage and history of T, X, Manual and Male will be able to use the "we made it to the semis/state game" to help build their programs. Do X, Male and Manual need that? Again, I hope not. T is crazy good this year and may be again next year, but do people expect the total domination demonstrated by T this year to continue year after year after year? If so, then perhaps the football programs X, Manual and Male may fall to the level of the 6A programs out in Bumfuzzle and Hee-Haw and they will need the program boost of saying "hey we made it to the semis/state game before we got beat by T". But I don't see that being the case.

I prefer to see the two best teams playing in the finals. BUT, the KHSAA changing things, hurt themselves. We get the money from earlier matchups...instead of the big gate at the Finals.

Well of course that may be the case anyways because we are getting to the semi-finals and not every good team can be there. But what is the point of putting St. X and Trinity up against each other in the quarterfinals if you know that they are the two best teams? Trinity's geography has Ballard, Eastern, and Seneca closer to them than Male, Manual, or St. X, but they moved it around so Trinity could be put there? Doesn't make sense to me.

 

But it is fine, Trinity will lace 'em up and if they are as good as they are advertised to be then they will win state. If not then it's been a really good year.

According to several area athletic directors at schools that have football, the KHSAA sent a survey to them and their coaches asking whether they like the current format in which almost every team qualifies for the playoffs or if they would like to see changes.

 

Under the current format four teams from each of eight districts in each of the six classes qualify for the playoffs. That means all 32 Class A teams and all 32 Class 6A teams qualify, while all but 30 teams out of 128 in the middle four classes qualify.

 

Newport Central Catholic athletic director Rob Detzel said six questions were on the survey.

 

Among the questions asked were whether to stick with the current four-team-per-district format or to cut down to two teams per district and eliminate a round of the playoffs.

 

He said another question asked about whether teams that didn't qualify for the playoffs would want to schedule an 11th game at the end of the regular season against other non-playoff teams.

 

Detzel was among several area athletic directors who said they also lost money on their first-round games because of significant travel costs for their opponents and lack of fans their opponents brought to those games.

Nope ... that format was changed sometime in the 1980s, I think.

We'll have to beat the best to win state anyway, so it might as well happen before the state game so we can keep the gate and pour the money back into the program, thus making our program even stronger. I may think the KHSAA is financially stupid or is motivated by other reasons, but I'm pleased as can be. While there are many ways to measure if a team had a successful year, either you win state or you don't. If you don't, does it really matter where and when you lost to the eventual state champion? I don't think so, but others may legitimately differ in that thinking.

While I don't disagree there is one issue. We only played 3 KY teams this year in the regular season. By putting X in the district with Trinity that took one state opponent off of our non-district schedule.

But at the same time, this did give us the opportunity of a life time with our scheduling. We wouldn't be near where we are in the national rankings were it not for that.
