January 3, 201412 yr We have a 2 1/2 year old Bichon Frise. He's a great pet' date=' smart, and very loyal. Weighs about 15 pounds so he is a true lap dog. He loves attention and will bring his toys to me to 'demand' that I play fetch with him. Loads of energy and a lot of fun, and does not shed. Sleeps at the foot of the bed every night and wakes me early for his morning walk, just like an alarm clock, but his method is not barking to wake me, it's licking my ears. Works to jump start me out of a deep sleep and he knows it, lol.[/quote'] You just described my Shihpoo. Except he either snuggles my girlfriend or sleeps on my stomach.
January 3, 201412 yr RM/Rocket/doomer, If I get an older dog it will almost certainly be a rescue. If it's a puppy I'm going purebred with a CAREFULLY selected breeder. I do agree with you three for the most part; but with a puppy I'd like to know more. I do think there are ways you can help the cause and still get a purebred dog if that's what you would like. Adding a family member is an important and very individual decision. I support maintenance of the registered breeds as well by reputable breeders. Just need to end all puppy mills...they are deplorable. Any person can help, by donating time and/or money or supplies, transporting, walking shelter dogs, fostering and getting the word out and supporting legislation for humane treatment of animals.

I didn't even see the black :lol2: Your Rot/Boxer mix was the one I thought was a British Fox Red Lab. I have one so I'm always curious when I see one. They're somewhat rare but a beautiful color

January 4, 201412 yr My 8 month old silver lab "Gunner" I've always said a silver Lab is the only dog I'd ever purchase. Beautiful dogs
January 4, 201412 yr Love me a pound puppy. And someday I will get another one. When LN hangs up the hunting bug and the boys have their own dogs, I may just become a foster dog mom. Although that may be dangerous.
January 4, 201412 yr We had to put down our Chocolate Lab/Weimaraner mix on July 6. Heartbreaking. While I'm ready for another dog and the kids are BEGGING for one, Hubby only wants his Chocoloate Moose back. Won't look at another breed. He adored that dog and it was mutual. He had so much personality! They are breeding them now, calling them Labaraners but I won't buy a dog from a breeder. Been volunteering at one shelter or another since I was 10 and my sons put in some hours in the summer at the one in Boone Co. We are all about the "mutts" and there's like no chance another Chocolate Moose is gonna come through the doors.
