Here is Doomer's "pack".....it is probably obvious that I work with rescues. However, I will be happy to help any way I can although my dog sources are shelters or hand-me-downs so I can't attest to their hypo-allerginititiousness (I made up that word:laugh:).

It's insane. One example: I have to lock my doors because Simba has figured out how to open them.

I'll get on soapbox for a minute. Unless you're buying a dog for sport purposes hunting or work (military, police, cadaver, etc.) please take a hard look at rescuing a dog. Essentially every breed has rescue organizations. I'll be the first to admit our first dog was purchased from a breeder, however since being educated on dog breeders and puppy mills, we've rescued 2 and they are both awesome. There are a lot of good dogs needing homes. Checkout petfinder.com or google the breed you wants rescue.

 

Sorry, I'm an animal nut and very involved in dog rescues. No better feeling than saving a dog from being put to sleep cause the shelter is out of room.

Yes. I absolutely PASSIONATE about rescuing dogs. I wish I could rescue every one of them I learn about. I'm a member of No Kill Louisville. I wish I had more time for working there. They have a pet food bank that works with low income people to provide free dog food to try and keep animals in their homes if their owners are at risk of taking them to a shelter because they can't afford to care for them. They subsidize vet bills, sponsored a snip and release for stray cats, and there's a network of NKL'ers who transport rescues in a relay toward their eventual foster or adoptive home. The Shamrock Foundation is another great program offering fostering.

This little guy RARELY barks...unless it's an opossum or a cat. Only once has he barked at a person. He's so quiet, I wonder what his life was like and what all he went through that I don't know about. I do know he was removed from a home by CPS because he was severely neglected, rail thin from lack of food and water. But, given his reactions to certain words or movements, I think he's likely been physically abused as well. He's extraordinarly tenatative with strangers, and only effusive with myself and my kids/their SO's. He's also very tentative with most other dogs, save less than a handful I've introduced him to. He is absolutely perfect with very, very small children. He loves to curl up next to them when they're sitting or laying near them. Once, my granddaughter reached inside his mouth and grabbed his tounge and he just sat there until we were able to rescue him. Afterward he nuzzled up to her as if he were trying to make up to her, like HE'D done something bad. I've never seen anything like it.

I feel like my rescues know they were saved and appreciate our home. I rescued Dexter from some rescue group in Louisville. I know he was mistreated. If anyone raises there voice he sits there and shakes uncontrollably. For the first month he wouldn't let you hold him and literally seemed to sleep with one eye open. That was 2 years ago, now he's the sweetest dog ever.
