Does Boise Have Any Chance this Season?

Featured Replies

By the looks of the latest BCS standings, I say Boise will need an absolute miracle to be playing for the title.

It appears (from 1st glance) that not only are there 4 undefeateds ahead of them, but the 3 one loss teams right behind them (OU, Arkansas, and Oregon) all are within reasonable striking distance to jump Boise if they win out.

This would include Oregon winning @Washington, @Stanford, and home against USC.

Arkansas would have two top 10 wins (South Carolina and LSU) still to tack to their resume.

Oklahoma would add wins over solid A&M and @#3 OKST.

Boise has nothing of significance to add to their resume as the best game left on their schedule is TCU.

So if Oregon, Arkansas, and Oklahoma don't win out, it appears that the SEC champion and one of the other 3 undefeateds will stay ahead of them, and if any of these teams do win out it seems to me they'd leapfrog Boise.

Thoughts?

I'm not seeing Arkansas winning out, nor Oregon. Oklahoma is a possibility, but the one loss they have is a bad one. OU is the most likely of the three to win out IMO, and if they do, perhaps a road victory @ OSU gives them the needed boost to jump Boise.

I'm thinking Alabama, Stanford & Boise finish the regular season undefeated (which, of course, means they'll all three lose this week). Bama/Stanford in title game. Perhaps LSU/Oklahoma will be the other marquee BCS game.

I also think Georgia finishes atop the SEC East. They have a crapper of a remaining SEC schedule, hosting both Auburn & UK. South Carolina has to travel to Arkansas & then host Florida.

Regardless, there's some big time football to be played in the next few weeks--major games with National Title implications: Alabama/LSU, Stanford/Oregon, Oklahoma/Oklahoma State. Going to be exciting!

It seems that every week a team ahead of Boise State loses but then someone behind them moves up ahead. So no, barring a complete meltdown by all the teams around them, I don't think they have a chance.

Been saying this for about 4 weeks, Boise's only chances was for Georgia to win out, and for the other teams to all lose probably 2 games, and for their opponents to win other games against decent teams.

If Boise doesn't lose and Stanford and Oklahoma State ends up with a loss, I believe their chances are good. Oklahoma losing to Texas Tech at home was big. I still think that the Georgia game could also still help out Boise a lot even if Georgia only wins the SEC east.

^I just don't see how it happens. If OKState ends up with a loss, it'll almost assuredly be against OU. If that happens, OU is too close to Boise to not leap them if beat a top 2 (at the time the play) team on the road.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see LSU jump right back ahead of them if they lose this week to Bama and then beat Arkansas.

I hope not. Boise State gets on my nerves. I still honestly believe that is OU beats OSU that we'll see LSU/Alabama part 2. Especially if everyone else loses at least once and I think that will happen.

I'm starting to lean that way, although I think OU or Oregon could potentially sneak in if they both win out.

Unfortunately, I don't think Boise gets in, even if there are no other undefeated teams left. The powers that be, don't want the apple cart upset. If Boise not only competed, but won, against one of the "Big Boys" for the national championship, then it pretty much invalidates everything the BCS has tried to put together (and keeping us away from a playoff system). They'd rather have two one-loss teams from traditional powerhouse programs fight it out.

If Boise does get in and wins it all, which are two very big IF's, than what?

Yes but if Oklahoma St loses to Oklahoma then Oklahoma will again leap past Boise State.

As I have said the past few weeks, Boise State losing last season to Nevada hurt their chances for making this season's title game. By the eye test they were better last season and they could not close the deal in their own conference.

Their only shot is for South Carolina must lose in-conference again, Georgia then wins out including the conference title, OK State must win the Big 12, Pac-12 winner comes from South division. I am not seeing a scenario where they put in a non-conference winner again to the title game unless it is the LSU/Bama rematch. They have caught too much flack for that in the past.

I'm not so confident in that, I believe their loss against Texas Tech at home will factor in to that strongly.

OU was a 30 point favorite at home and laid an egg. I do not think you are too far off in your assumption.

The cynic in me agrees with you.
