These are all things that I have witnessed with my own 2 eyes, if you wish to pretend it does not go down then please continue to live in fantasy land.

So why have you done nothing?

What is the rationale for mandating that all coaches must be compensated? Needless to say, that puts a chill on volunteerism. How much compensatioin is required, I wonder? Does it have anything to do with the teachers' union?

As far as I know it had to do with coach accountability and having all coaches "in the system".

I got to know Trinity fans when my son played for Scott County a few years back. We would scrimage Trinity every year back then and this is what I learned. The Trinity Alum is not high on sports they are high on Trinity and its tradition. Sports is only part of that tradition and they are proud of it. Trinity is an oppertunity for kids to get on the right track and stay on the right track and develope life long associations with other alum. From what I see they support there kids equaly whether its the debate team or the football team and they set them up for success. It is very easy to see why students want to go there and I also beleive there is not a school official or an alum that would do any thing to hurt a fine reputation or tradition. I feel we at Scott County are trying to get where we can compete but it just dosent happen overnight ask any T or X fan. I will tell you that the Scott County Alum really do none of this.

I know for a fact that Jefferson, Kenton, Boone and Fayette county Public schools must compensate all coaches, they can be para-professionals and work outside of the school but they must be paid something.

So what? That is completely different than saying "no public school is allowed to have volunteer coaches" and such statement is blatantly false. The inaccuracy of such makes me further believe that the statement you have witnessed "things" with your own two eyes is likewise inaccurate. Yes, I'm saying I don't believe you because you have given me zero reason to believe you.

I'll again state what has been stated on here countless times by many people: if you observe any school violating the KHSAA rules and do nothing to report it, you are as guilty as the school violating the rule. Rather than talking about it on a message board, have the fortitude to write a letter with documentation to the KHSAA. I can assure you it will be taken seriously by the KHSAA. If it isn't, then send a copy of the letter and documentation to the Herald Leader; send a copy to KDE; and send a copy to your local legislator. If there is truth to what you allege, I'm certain they'll find it. But just don't throw out allegations on a message board behind an anonymous message board name where nothing can be done about it.

Adults are ruining high school athletics.

Then this is a disadvantage the school board put on themselves. This is not a khsaa rule and quite frankly, a stupid rule the school board would make. If someone is willing to help a school for free and they are qualifed, why wouldn't a school take them. No wonder we are in this economic condition.

Maybe the best statement in this whole thread.

Thank you very much.

I also agree with Bill, and I also agree with me. I contacted KHSAA on the coaches issue, they told me.."as the budget allows they (any school) can have as many as they want.'

Bill, I am absolultey thrilled that you posted this! You obviously "got it"! Thank you for posting this! I always try to explain this, using the Shamrock Awards as an example (a HUGE academic awards banquet each year). People always look at me like I'm crazy. I'm sure that with the right support and time, Scott County will achieve its goals. The committment of the school community is THE critical point, and it sounds like you've got it.

When my kids played we experienced big wins and big losses. I know how it feels.. There is nothing being done at Trinity that can't be done at any school in the state. It isn't easy. It starts with people who are willing to pay what it costs to have a top notch school. At Trinity it is donors and parents. In public schools it is taxpayers. It takes a school board that is willing to demand the highest quality from the paid administrators. At Trinity it is volunteer boards. In the public schools it is an elected board. It takes administrators that insist upon the highest quality from teachers, cafeteria workers, staff, coaches and down to the custodial staff. Everyone can help with that. Every time you walk through the school find something that needs to be fixed, painted or cleaned. Then make sure it gets done. It takes teachers with a talent and passion for teaching. If they don't have it, they need to be gone. If the administrators won't get rid of them, get new administrators. It takes teachers and administrators that demand high performance and good behavior from every student. Perphaps most of all it takes parents that won't settle for less. Those things are the real Trinity advantages. It is a level playing field at the start. It is what is done with the playing field after that makes the difference.

Agree with everything you said, especially the bolded. There are 9 teachers at NewCath that are teaching my daugther that taught me, and I"ve been gone since 1984. It says alot about a school and it's supporters that you can retain the same folks for such a long time when they could easily go to the public schools for more money and better benefits. We have so many parents and alum that give back and do things at the school you would think they actually worked there. Heck we even converted a couple of CovCath grads to join our ranks (principal and AD)lol.

You will impress me when you get a Brossart guy there...

Next time I see Mel I'll see if he is interested.
