Never heard of them. I'm guessing you have, right?

I am not an expert, but I don't think that KHSAA rules allow for "diversity scholarships". If you wanted to define a diversity scholarship as merit based, the KHSAA limits merit based scholarships to twenty-five percent.

As others have posted, I too have never heard of such a scholarship....

BTW to read a list of scholarships at CovCath use this link

Open House

  • Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 11:30-3:00 p.m.

The student and his family will receive a personal tour of the school building with a current CovCath student and have the opportunity to ask all those questions you want to find out from the students. Our faculty is available to review curriculum and expectations of their classroom. The extracurricular programs of clubs, intramural and sports teams are also present to share information about their offerings.

Now that we have answered your question, please tell us where you heard of such a scholarship?

The term “diversity” is used in education to indicate individuals or groups of individuals who are not represented by the “normal” population of the institution. The idea is for students to be exposed to people of other cultures or heritages. The theory is that the more diverse the student body is then they will have a better understanding of underrepresented people.

While the scholarship may not be called a “diversity scholarship,” its intent is to improve diversity.

By the way it would be nice if some people would learn how to put a link into their posting.

Private high schools in Kentucky are allowed to offer the following as "tuition assistance" to a student-

-Merit scholarship to equal no more than 25% of the total tuition

-Need based scholarship to equal no more than the demonstrated financial need of the family as determined by a 3rd party company approved by the KHSAA (not the school)

Those are the straigtforward facts, regardless of what folks might say.

BTW you don't have to post the entire link like you did in one of your posts! Yours takes up much more space than mine and my link works just as well. Maybe that is why they installed "the link" just above and next to the smiley. Try it sometime, instead of typing the entire link out!

You did....http://www.wlwt.com/high-school-playbook/29440357/detail.html

I did....Link

See how they both work and mine uses much less space!:idunno:

Excuse me for trying to help. Your posting on my screen did not have a link. You had "Open House." Won't try to help in the future.

As a Public School supporter (Four Sons) I see nothing wrong in helping a student who wants to attend a private school, what gets me is when this happens and then when their team wins a game they act like they are the greatest thing since Ice Cream.

I know of several kids who got into a private schools and their family was on a real low income and living in assited housing. Thats OK with me it is America, its all about the Child. I've had three sons go to college and one has a double major (Eight years) so I we could have sent our boys to any school in the state.

Larry,

I have no idea what you are talking about but let me be very clear about the one private school i know about. Merit based scholarships for student athletes are not allowed by KHSAA to be more than 25 percent of tuition. At Trinity, the Steinhauser Scholars are the top 20 on the placement test. Diversity or other factors do not enter into the determination. Need based financial aid is awarded based on the families determination of need as calculated by an out of state service. Diversity or athletic participation are not part of the calculation. The KHSAA allows need based financial aid of up to, but not over that amount. At Trinity, every student receives the same percentage of their documened need. This year that percentage was our highest ever, 65 percent. Some day, Lord willing, we will be able to raise that number to 100 percent. Every public school in Kentucky has the ability to throw open its doors to students from anywhere and charge them tuition. They could also raise money to pay that tuition, up to documented need for needy students. Almost all choose not to. I think that the dirty little secret is that they are afraid that if they did so nobody would come and they would lose their favorite excuse.

When a private school wins a game they are the greatest thing since ice cream, just like when a public school wins a game. It doesn't matter whether the cost of their education was paid by their family, generous donors or the taxpayers.

I'm sure you are aware that even though some of us choose to pay the tuition and send our kids to private schools, we also "support" the public schools with our property tax dollars. Yep, we get to pay for our kid's eduction and your kid's too, even though you didn't need the help!

Daddy, move then, I didn't make the laws.

ALUM, I just know some kids who got in and they lived in homes where the welfare helped them, I don't know the total story, but I've been around this since the early 70s and know many kids who got in and like I said I'm happy for them, I think I mentioned that.

On the ice cream quote, just read the threads on here. I've been around Male since 2004, how many other Male fans do you see on here? I read other sites where people say a lot more on this issue than on here. On one site there are "SIX" different threads on Trinity alone that are one day old.

I've dealt with the "fans" on here too. I tell you what go to the college forum on football and read my posts on Alabama Football. I could be real hard to be around but I've been taught some things on how you act win or lose. And I have two sons named after Coach Bryant

Larry, I know you were around Male when the previous coach was there. I've got to tell you I find it somewhat laughable when anyone from Male complains about how other people act. Redman made his career running the score up on people. If you want people the "act like they've been there before" maybe you should look into the history at your favorite school first.

And I won't even talk about some of the things I've heard come from the Male cheering section at games.

This is a Khsaa requirement. All privates need based money goes thru the same out of state service. Families fill out paperwork very similar to a college fafsa.

ALLTell, things have changed at Male. We are 3-7 and lost to trinity 49-7. Yes, the game tape showed our Freshman scored on the long run. Ask some Trinity coaches/Players if they saw the tape.

To be fair guys I know guys who got into private schools Bishop David/Desales/Trinity/X back in the 70s and they had help, and we thought nothing of it. I thought it was fine that my buds got to go where they wanted to. So things may have changed since then I don't lose sleep over it since we got Tony Driver back in the 90s. That is a joke..here.

Remember, I said I think its great kids Boys/Girls can get a chance to go where they want to. I think several players from Trinity played against us at Highview Optimist the past few years. And some were on our team.
