It was only obvious in 09 that Mayfield was clearly favorered to beat Beechwood until the game got outa hand at 38-0 in the 3rd qter. The BW people before the game were very confident in their team , on here and at the game, I talked to more than a few. Mayfield has lost 2 games in 2.5 yrs while BW has 10. We have beaten 2 state champs and won one ourselves. The point of thread you ask, VOR? Is that BW has not played up to their usual standards, its a fact and why the other question is most of the BW faithfull think they are the frontrunners for the title.

2009 - Beechwood was below their usual standards. Beechwood fans are always going to be confident, just like Mayfield fans. And they surely aren't going to say anything different to Mayfield fans. Most BW fans I know hoped to beat Mayfield but knew they were in trouble.

 

2010 - Beechwood was back to being Beechwood and just didn't get it done versus Mayfield. The other losses were to top tier 5A schools including Highlands.

 

The schedule the past 3 years has arguably been the toughest schedule in Beechwood history and there have been added losses as a result.

 

Most Beechwood faithful don't think they are frontrunners for the title. That is the creation of Mayfield fans who apparently need to believe that for some reason or have some deep seated inferiority complex for who knows what reason. Beechwood fans know this team is the best team they have fielded in the past three years and are excited about their chances but Mayfield is the champion and front runner to repeat till someone beats them.

It is not a creation of Mayfield fans. Its been created right here by fans of BW at the start of the season and by the BGP pollsters. The majority of fans for MF/ BW fans are not on here and most don't really give a rip. If your team wins , it wins , if not there is always next year. The hard core ones its a different story. Mayfield has never felt inferior especially to BW.

But Mayfield was clearly expected to win the 2009 game versus Beechwood, as much as Beechwood was expected to win versus Simon Kenton this year. So by your criteria that isn't a signature win. Same with the win over the 6 loss Paducah Tilghman team that year. Mayfield was the clear favorite and expected to win that game so that isn't a signature win. I don't know much about Trousdale so I'll let you take your credit for that as a signature win. But you can't get Mayfield off the hook on the Caldwell County loss. That was just a bad loss no matter what the conditions were. There is no loss by Beechwood in the last 2.5 years to any team that compares to that one.

 

What is the point you are trying to make in this thread? Beechwood has 6 wins against schools in higher classes in the last 2.5 years with one of those wins over an eventual state champion. Sorry if that doesn't live up to your standards.

In fairness, it was the Mayfield-Tilghman game in 2009 (TD on the Cardinals' first play and a 21-0 halftime lead) that seemed to light the fuse on some of the turmoil within Tilghman's program. The Tornado finally righted the ship in time for the playoffs, but to be honest, the Tilghman team that won the state title was no more talented than the team Mayfield beat in September. Tilghman might have been better aligned by that point.

 

The Trousdale County win, in my opinion, is Mayfield's best regular-season win in several years. Trousdale is one of Tennessee's top small-school programs and was the defending Class A state champion. It was also big in the way Mayfield won, coming back from a 20-0 deficit in the second quarter, and Trousdale went on to repeat as state champs.

VOR, I agree the Caldwell loss wasn't a good loss, but, FYI, they aren't a bad team, at all. They weren't bad that year and have been pretty good in alot of other years, even winning a state championship in 98 over Danville.. Not taking away the fact that Mayfield was the favorite in that game and got beat, just pointing out that they've got a pretty solid program.. And, the Trousdale Co win was a very, very good win. They won the Tn 2a title that year, ending 14-1 on the season, losing only to Mayfield and they're always a powerhouse yr in, yr out,..

Pollsters are pollsters so not much can be said about that. As to the fans, I must be missing those posts in threads on BGP because I am just not seeing Beechwood fans on here saying anything about Beechwood being the favorite. In fact, I think it is the exact opposite - Beechwood fans consider Mayfield the favorite. I would be interested in seeing posts where BW fans said that BW is the favorite. That is where I am saying that is a creation in the minds of Mayfield fans if they believe BW fans have said that.

Caldwell County finished 4-7 in 2009.

The Caldwell game was a fluke, devine intervention, blue moon, when pigs fly kinda game. The game was played in a driving rain storm and it rained all day. A perfect recipe for Caldwell because it equalized the teams because other than the rain they woulda got hammered. But, give Caldwell its due they won fair and square. Caldwell was not a good team in 09.

Why dwell on Caldwell, if you want to dwell you could pick a Bw loss, say Mayfield. Just sayin

VOR his point, I think, is that Bw was down the last 2 years and their record points to that. He is using the CC loss and close game I assume this year to try and compare as to whether or not Bw is improved or are they more along the lines of the last 2 years. Now let me point out Bw could be about the same and Mf not be as good as they were the last 2 years and that might be good enough for Bw to beat Mf. I might also add that I have not passed any judgement here as of yet for myself.
