Just pointing out that there are 5 teams on Bwoods schedule that would be strong 1a teams. But, to answer your question, it would depend on how they do against them. They've already defeated SK, so, they'd definately be ranked ahead of them..

Grass.. The field is usually kept pretty immaculate although by Nov, it's turned a little brown, but, still nice.. The stadium itself is about 70 yrs old, but, it's had a facelift in the past few years and it's a very nastolgic place to play.. The best thing is, there's not a bad seat in the house and you can feel the atmosphere on the field you're so close to the action..

I would argue on the topic of this thread that Mayfield might be worse than Beechwood in considering signature wins and bad losses in the past 2.5 years. Who has Mayfield beat that was a tossup game in the last 2.5 years? I only see at best two for Mayfield - Beechwood last year (although I would argue Mayfield was a clear favorite in that game considering it was the greatest Mayfield team ever) and Paducah Tilghman last year. In addition, Mayfield has a bad upset loss in the 2009 Caldwell County loss. Even being down in 2009 (down for Beechwood at least), Beechwood has not lost to a team that bad in the past couple of years.

 

So let's compare the two under the guidelines and discussion above. Signature wins for Mayfield are Paducah Tilghman and possibly Beechwood 2010. Signature wins for Beechwood are Newport Central Catholic in 2010. Upset loss for Mayfield is Caldwell County 2009. Upset loss for Beechwood = none. Is Beechwood's track record in signature wins and upset losses the past 2.5 years better than Mayfield's?

check this link for pictures of the stadium. Some of the pictures are an old baseball stadium next door. The field is grass and has a very high crown on it.

Sportsguy....I had a great time watching Mayfield play a couple of years ago when my daughter attended Murray State. Heck I couldn't buy a thing at the concession stand as the Mayfield fans after seeing my CovCath hat kept buying me stuff.

I have heard you mention that trip many times and each one of them I always wish I could have had the chance to meet you. If you ever come back let me know. I almost made your Bw game but it started just a little early for a group of us to get it together for the trip so we listened to it. I assume you were one of the guys we were listening to. The announcers did a great job I might add.

 

Sportguy and all Beachwoodians who did not make the trip last time, our stadium is not located at the school so beware if you look it up becasue the field you see at the school is a practice field. I will add directions on here if we are both lucky enough for this game to take place.

 

VOR I think the measure Snake is using when applied to Mayfield paints a pretty accurate picture over the years. In years where we usually beat our main big school foes we do well in the playoffs and in years like 2008 where we dont we do poorly in the playoffs (semi final loss vs state title game).

But Mayfield was clearly expected to win the 2009 game versus Beechwood, as much as Beechwood was expected to win versus Simon Kenton this year. So by your criteria that isn't a signature win. Same with the win over the 6 loss Paducah Tilghman team that year. Mayfield was the clear favorite and expected to win that game so that isn't a signature win. I don't know much about Trousdale so I'll let you take your credit for that as a signature win. But you can't get Mayfield off the hook on the Caldwell County loss. That was just a bad loss no matter what the conditions were. There is no loss by Beechwood in the last 2.5 years to any team that compares to that one.

 

What is the point you are trying to make in this thread? Beechwood has 6 wins against schools in higher classes in the last 2.5 years with one of those wins over an eventual state champion. Sorry if that doesn't live up to your standards.
