Bj, a good BW team in the past won some of those type games. Especially the teams that won state titles.

Snakesnot_2000, I understand where you are coming from. Let's re-visit this at the end of the regular season. If BW happens to win out then they will be 9-1. That alone for a 1A school with their kind of schedule will be significant.

I think his question is valid, and I don't want to speak for the starter of the thread, but while Beechwood is still a respected program in the state, nobody can question that the Tigers titles aren't racking up as quickly as at one time they were. Plus the state now has 6 classes when before it had 4. To me, Beechwood is very good for a Kentucky program, but I think they have fallen from the great category.

What he is saying to me is this

 

In years where Bw has won state titles they have often beat some of the higher class, higher ranked teams like a highly ranked, Highlands, Cov Cath or NCC. In years that they have not they have often not won a state title. Now I have not researched this so maybe I am wrong but I think he is using this as a barometer to measure the likelyhood of Bw winning a state title this year. The last 2 years Bw did not win a title and their only win amongst the elite on their schedule was NCC. I assume that Bw faired better against the elite in title years by either winning or nearly winning. So he sees the loss to Cov Cath as not being a very close loss and ask what has changed from 2009 and 2010 meaning has Bw improved enough to win a state title. Now obviously we all know there are alot of other intangables but I believe he is using the preformances against those schools to try and predict how good Bw is or is going to be by playoff time.

 

If you look at Mayfield over the years I think this usually tells us how we will do in the playoffs.

TP, you need to do research because what your saying is incorrect. BW lost to big schools up here and still won state titles. I'll let you look back in the statistics and find out for yourself. This whole thread has been started to stir the pot. My question is, when Beechwood won state titles, where was Mayfield? Getting beat by the likes of Crittenden, Danville, and Frankfort I presume. Maybe I need to start that thread! HMPH!

CC would be ranked #1 or #2 at the worse, in 1a.. SK would be a Top 3-4 team in 1a, Dixie would be the same.. NCC would also probably be #1 or 2..Cov HCross would be Top 5.. That's 5 teams Bwood will play that would be considered Top 5 1a teams or better.. I do think the outcome of all these games are relevant to what you may can expect from them in the playoffs. On the one hand, losing 3 of 5 or 4 of 5 would likely mean they will struggle to get to BGreen, whereas winning 3 or 4 of those would likely mean they will be hard to handle and a probable favorite.

Most threads are started to "stir the pot". If we don't, we don't have dialog and conversation starters. Mayfield has had plenty of down years , most recently 07 and 08 and now we are in an up tick mode. I did do research back to BW's 07 and 08 years when they won their last titles and they did beat most of the big boys they played. The 09 and 10 teams were mediocre to BW standards and earlier threads this year were touting this years team as the 1A frontrunner and using the theme since this years seniors had won the NKY frosh title.

BJaynes, I would say a Dixie win will be a good out of class win, then of course if Beechwood can beat NCC. I know it's if's and but's, but if Beechwood wouldn't have had those turnovers Vs CCH, it would have at least been a lot closer.

 

It's nice to have wins Vs good bigger schools, but as long as they are ready for the Mighty Cardinals of Mayfield, all will be good. :thumb:

 

BTW, where is the field? I tried to look it up?

Clyde.....Beechwood would have already moved up to 2A by the time this happens and be #1 every year.

SportsGuy...you are bang on. The only turnovers I want to see the rest of the year are in my toaster oven.

 

Toothpick, if BW does make the pilgrimage west in the semis then you pick a spot and the BW/Mayfield posters can get together for a pregame of something as long as it's legal.

I doubt you can park there, you can try. I think you have to buy a pass with your season ticket but last time a group form Bw got in and even if you cant park you can tailgate. Snake is the organizer, Im sure he will work out somthing. Sounds like you and bjaynes and maybe crunch would be in

THIS BW team beating THIS SK team was expected.

 

You are right Clyde. Perhaps coming off of emabarrassing Conner in a scrimmage, then Goshen, SK, twighlight zone game at Holmes, then HC...these kids perhaps got a little complacent (perhaps due to being Frosh champs, right SS!). Without a doubt it would have been different (not necessarily the outcome) without the TO's at CC, but it happened and the boy's paid the price and it stings. I also don't think the Boone/CC game would have been as close "if" it had been at @CC (carpet) on a Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't, so we'll never know.

 

I just watched SK give NCC all they could handle and they were fortunate to get out of there with the win. So don't take SK too lightly.

 

Snot, ya got what ya wanted with this thread, Congrats!. BW has won all the games they were supposed to win and lost all games they weren't favored in (expect for NCC), including against the mightly Cards. The shot to try to embarrass BW wasn't really necessary, but it is what it is and people are people...You Win!
