Meyer wasn't a big name before going to Florida. Stoops wasn't a big name before landing at Oklahoma. Neither was Miles. The bottom line is, there is some talent involved in evaluating a mid-level head coach or upper level assistant coach and determining if they are the right fit for your program. The obvious success stories are Stoops, Meyer, Kelly (Cincinnati), etc. There are just as many failures though

I'm a huge UK football supporter but the fact remains that the football program will never, ever have a chance to win the division or the conference championship.....a name coach may help somewhat but IMO still couldn't win in the SEC...it's just the true fact of the matter....the MAC conference has always been my choice for UK football and I also know that will never happen....

I don't agree that UK can never be a player in the SEC. That is negative and shortsighted thinking. I understand the reality of UK's past. But why limit yourself? Do you think Howard Schnellenberger had that defeatist attitude when he won at Miami? Anything is possible if you try hard enough.

Further supports my argument. Not even a top tier team and everything about gameday there was 10 times what it is in Lexington. I didn't go there specifically for the game, but I happened to make it to the tailgates and what not.

 

I think you missed my point. I saw nothing in Columbia on gameday, and I can assure you I tailgated with the who's who (and USC players after the game) of SC boosters and fans, that was more exciting than Lexington.

Do you mean culturally? Or because Miami is a metro area? If you mean football-wise, remember that Miami was nothing before Howard came. As i recall, their claim to fame was playing on Friday nights and having Ted Hendricks as a LB.
