September 19, 201115 yr U.K. has very good facilities imo. I am sure that other SEC schools has much better, there is no doubt in my mind that Books is right about that. What I would love to see U.K. invest in should it be serious about wanting a competitive program, and lets face it, UK hasn't competed for an SEC crown since Curci, and he cheated, is that U.K. HAS TO put up the major $$$ for a top tier coach! Brooks took things from a laughing stock to mediocrity. Joker says they are ready to compete for an SEC East title:lol:, that along with wkyt blowig out the same type talk is the laugher of the century. U.K. still is a joke in the recruiting wars when it comes to comparisons with other SEC shools. They also are evidently satisfied with just average to good coaches. Like I said, untill top price coaches that can recruit the very top talent (and please don't say that top talent is here now) then they will remain mediocre at best and have a chance to play in 6/7 win "toilet bowls" every so often if they schedule bad teams out of bad conferences or 1AA schools. More simply stated....."you can't make chicken salad out of chiken crap"! As usual, the best date in the UK football season is the open date and Oct. 14h....the basketball Big Blue Madness. September 19, 201115 yr I learned a lot walking around tailgating in Columbia for the South Carolina/Navy game this weekend. The Kentucky football program just isn't appealing enough. The atmosphere, fans, support, TALENT, is so much better and more exciting at other schools, I'm not surprised at all how bad UK is. If I'm getting offers from Georgia, Bama, Florida, South Carolina, LSU etc., not a chance in the world I'm picking Kentucky. Everything about football just isn't as good in Lexington. They may have a decent team here and there, but there's no chance they ever become relevant year after year like a lot of SEC schools are simply because of talent and they won't ever pull in an epic recruiting class. I'm afraid they're stuck in mediocrity forever. Spending money won't change anything.

Granted, they won the East (UK beat them) last year and have the talent to do so this year (barely beat Navy). Two of my best friends are season ticket holders at SC and they would tell you in honest moments that they don't consider the Cocks to be a top tier team. I went to Columbia two years ago for the UK game and had a blast. I really didn't see it as that big of a difference than Lexington as far as the atmosphere though. Just my opinion.
September 20, 201115 yr Further supports my argument. Not even a top tier team and everything about gameday there was 10 times what it is in Lexington. I didn't go there specifically for the game, but I happened to make it to the tailgates and what not.

Recruiting, scouting, and assistant coach salaries are just as important.:thumb: Not just as important, imo much more important, ------------------------------------------------------------------------ U.K. has very good facilities, it will take players that are SEC talent and a coach that is recognized all over the country when people hear his name along with his pick for his staff. Want to sink money into improving U.K. football?? Then spend it, and alot of it, whatever it takes no matter how much to get a big name coach that can recruit big time players. Improvements to the facilities are always good but then you still have a great facilities along with a losing program. Simply put....."you can dress up a pig pen to make it look better but it still has the same pigs inside" or...... "You are not going to win the Derby by running domkeys against thoughrobreds".

If a top coach is available $$$ won't be an issue because many schools will pay $$$ to get a top coach, UK would be one of many in a bidding war. Why would a top coach come to UK when there are around 30+ programs already ahead of UK that would be easier and qucker to win at?

While he would definitely be an upgrade, he doesn't have the pull to turn the program around. Nick Saban, Bob Stoops, Spurrier, Urban Meyer, Petrino, Mack Brown, Les Miles...those are guys that could turn UK around. The chances UK could land one of them are about the same chances I have at taking over for Marvin Lewis. Other than those guys, I'm not so sure it's possible to make UK relevant.

Should Joker end up on the short end of the employment stick at UK (and I'm not pushing him out the door) Leach would bring huge excitement to the program.
