Someone mentioned it earlier but what a great effort play by Max Nussbaum on Gray's long run. Gray was out in front and Max never gave up. I think Gabe thought he was home free and let up a bit at the end and Max got him at the 1. Could have been a 80yd TD run. Great, great effort by Nussbaum.

 

I can see that kid being a college safety.

If, and I stress if, CCH started drilling Beechwood every year many people including the coaching staff may feel different.

 

Man that would sadden me. IF CCH and HHS were not in the same district and class THIS would be the game players looked towards the most from a rivalry perspective on the CCH side. When I played I personally knew half the kids on Beechwood's roster.... a couple of years we hung out together after the game. It's a great rivalry that CCH has just been winning. At least wait until this super class of 8th graders gets through the Beechwood halls.

Clear up with Tony if he ever does another game it is "Spencer Hemmer", not "Hemmer Spencer". He said it at least 5x. Not his fault Hemmer maybe CCH's best defensive player but some of us are big on names.

Leave the cheering to the student section(who did a not job on Saturday). BW's crowd was great all day.

As to fitigue, I didnt see it ?????.....Usually I agree with you, not this time. The Bw kids were spent half way thru the third quarter. Normally you dont have the likes of Staten, Nussbaum, Erdman and Nussbaum over on the bench trying to catch their breath in a tight game. When an official is stopping a game to send a kid to the sideline and he is not hurt or there is no blood on him, then that is fatigue. The good thing out of all this is it was noticed by all. The Tigers will get in better shape as the year goes on. They will be ready for Mayfield, by the way, they also play thier players both way !!

 

If Beechwood was fatigued half way through the 3rd quarter, they may as well pack it in for the year. Remember, the first TD of the second half by CCH took 3 plays. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the score was 27-21. I didn't see Staten or Nussbaum leaving the game in the 3rd quarter to catch their breath. I did see Nussbaum come out on defense late in the 4th quarter when the game was pretty well decided. I don't think fatigue was a factor. Perhaps you are trying to use fatigue as an excuse for the fact that CCH's line and Gray were moving the ball on our guys because they are bigger and a little better. I am not going to use the easy excuse that it was fatigue because IMO it wasn't.

 

i have to question where you get the idea that 'Mayfield believed they would run all over Beechwood" you are in northern ky and you have a knowledge of this kind of attitude by Mayfield? Either you are blowing smoke or you have no idea what you are talking about. While there may be players and fans that think Mayfield will win, no one in Mayfield believes that this will be an easy game. Mayfield has no one on its schedule that could beat CCH and it sounds like Beechwood gave them a very good game, and most likely Mayfiled will have its hands full with LHC just to get to the Beechwood game. I hope both teams get there it should be one heck of a game, but i dont think either team will " run all over" the other! Just sayin...

BW was matching CC blow for blow until those two huge fumbles. BW O-line was getting plenty of push during the long drives prior to those fumbles. I also thought BW prematurely went to the "all" passing game when there was 9-10 minutes left and only down by 12. Those fumbles were demoralizing, and that three pass (3-and-out) took zero time off the clock, put the defense on the field way too much too fast and was the knockout blow.

 

That is the game in a nutshell crunch. Well said. Turnovers decide close games and those two turnovers were killers.

I would say "stunned" is way too strong. Anyone with any real knowledge of it knows Beechwood will be tough team to beat in November.

I have yet to find anyone who thinks it will be easy. Mayfield expects to win every game no matter the opponet but isn't that the way it is suspose to be? BW does seem to have a mental edge on the rest of 1A that is not present with Mayfield, maybe that is what is confusing you. Losing to BW is a very real possibility, it will take a good effort to advance to their shot at a 9th State title.

^ Agree with all Clyde except Beechwood did not try to get Vocke outside enough. They need to run that stretch play a LOT with Vocke, just like CCH did today with Gray. When either of those guys get one inch of a seam, they are gone.

 

The CCH D was fundamentally a better D than Beechwood in this game. The Beechwood D let Gray get outside but CCH did not let Vocke. The CCH D was better prepared for this game.

 

The Beechwood D did not do a good job wrapping him up. Basic fundamental tackling works better than the reach and grab method. That's how shoulders get hurt anyway.

 

My guess is that Beechwood will make adjustments and get back on track because you can not give up 40 points and expect to win a state championship.

I hear you, back long ago when I played all the Beechwood and CCH players went to a party, hung out, and did some things we should not have done after our game with each other.
