The CCH D was fundamentally a better D than Beechwood in this game. The Beechwood D let Gray get outside but CCH did not let Vocke. The CCH D was better prepared for this game.

 

The Beechwood D did not do a good job wrapping him up. Basic fundamental tackling works better than the reach and grab method. That's how shoulders get hurt anyway.

 

My guess is that Beechwood will make adjustments and get back on track because you can not give up 40 points and expect to win a state championship.

 

I agree with you on all this. Poor execution by Beechwood D, missed assignments, poor tackling. But I will say in their defense, Gabe Gray makes every defense he faces look like poor tacklers. Sometimes you just have to give credit that the other guy was better.

I have yet to find anyone who thinks it will be easy. Mayfield expects to win every game no matter the opponet but isn't that the way it is suspose to be? BW does seem to have a mental edge on the rest of 1A that is not present with Mayfield, maybe that is what is confusing you. Losing to BW is a very real possibility, it will take a good effort to advance to their shot at a 9th State title.

TP, you kind of proved my point in that post. You and everyone else in Mayfield will be totally stunned if that game happens and Beechwood wins.

 

As to the mental edge comment, I have heard you say that many times on here and it is so much baloney. Neither Beechwood nor Mayfield has any kind of mental edge on another truly competitive team. No one in Mayfield is intimidated by Beechwood. No one at Beechwood is intimidated by Mayfield. No one at Hazard is going to be intimidated by Beechwood or Mayfield...etc. Teams that truly have no shot at winning, yes they may not have the mental toughness against those teams. But not the top tier, competitive teams.

I hear you, back long ago when I played all the Beechwood and CCH players went to a party, hung out, and did some things we should not have done after our game with each other.

 

Same was going on in my day. I grew up in Fort Mitchell, and I had the pleasure of playing against several guys who were and still are among my best friends. We were all saddened for the 2 or 3 years that the series was dropped in the 00's.

As to fatigue, I didn't see it.

 

I saw some fatigue, but all things considered, I was amazed at how long the Beechwood players played as hard as they did. Towards the end of the 3rd quarter you could see Cam Vocke leaning over and pulling up on the front of his feet after every 2 or 3 plays. It was pretty clear that he was cramping badly at the very least.

 

One kid I didn't see slow down a lick, though, was Max Nussbaum. I think there was about a 5 minute stretch where we called his name every other play on offense and defense. He's only a junior too?? He'll be flat out amazing next year.

If I recall, you were only 99% sure as well. And it was 83 yards for Beatrice.

One of many very nice aspect of this team and this group of seniors, is they could care less about stats, as I haven't been asked one time by a player "how many did I get", not once this season!

 

Truly they care more about each other than themselves and all you have to do is read their comments in the papers or talk to them after the games. It has never been me ME ME, but did you see what my teammate did! Great group of young men on this team and it starts with their coaches!

Where and when ws this said? I did not find it in this posts or the other started bu Guru. It looks like Guru is the one who said it, not a Mf fan. I doubt many Cards fans think either side would win easily and if they do they are going on faith.

Again, that's 1 persons opinion and he even said at the end that it wasn't a lock but felt it was Mayfields to lose. Again, 1 person, Crunch and you act as if it's the entire team, coaches, fanbase. Sorry, his opinion hurt your feelings, but, he was being honest in how he thought it was. Nothing wrong with that. It's more his confidence in Mayfield than a knock on Beechwood, which is seemingly how you're taking it. Beechwood may well come to Mayfield and lay a smack down on them, but, past history says otherwise and people around Mayfields program know what type team they have this year and what they're capable of.. Most of those same people don't know that much about this years Beechwood team, so, tend to lean on what they've seen in the past, so, yeah, I'm sure some are pretty confident that Mayfield will win again, but, thats because they know there team, not because they don't have respect for the Tigers. It's called homerism..

I never said "everyone" thinks that nor made it a blanket statement so don't put words in my mouth.

 

MF very well may beat BW with ease, but goodness, is it really necessary to be so arrogant about it in Sept? Come on, you fellas have way too much time on your hands. I know it's tough, but your glory days are over so stop trying to live through these kids...just enjoy watching these kids play and try being a little humble in your childrens' success.

Anyway, I just noticed SS, aka "MF#1Fan", has called-out the BW faithful on another non-sense thread. I think it's borderlien taunting, but it is what it is...in the meantime, Can someone in MF pls help him find something to do?
