August 31, 201115 yr Trust me. I am a baseball fanatic and have been for a long time. It happens every year there are close pennant races - fact. Yes, teams play their young players to see what they have and they should. They will get the opportunity to play them even more this year with no close pennant races. But I guarantee you that if the Cards were 1 game behind Milwaukee and the Reds were 15 games out, the Reds better not put all the AAA guys on the field when they face the Brewers. You will hear Tony LaRussa whining at levels even he hasn't reached. Nothing makes me happier!
August 31, 201115 yr Is Sappelt playing his way out of contending for a job next year? His defense has been almost Alonso like lately, his AVG is below .250 and his OBP is .269. I don't know if you can win a job in September but I think you can lose one if you play bad enough. I think Sappelt needs to start playing better if he wants serious consideration next spring.

I agree with you on that. I have not been impressed with him at all either defensively or with his offensive approach. I don't know if he is trying too hard or what.
August 31, 201115 yr :idunno: Why did you quote me in that post? What you said has nothing to do with what I posted. It was based on this part of your post. "When teams are in a pennant race, they want to know that the team they are battling for the pennant is facing a team that is trying to win."

Plus numerous base running errors.
August 31, 201115 yr Excuse me but the Braves don't pay the Red's salaries and they aren't rooting for them any other time of the year. Either play better or spend more money on your team if you want to compete with Philly. I hate the fact that the Phillies, Yankees, Red Sox, etc., etc., etc. can buy their way to the playoffs but that's another story. Don't talk about the integrity of the game. The only way that the bottom feeders in baseball can compete is by developing young talent and you don't do that @ AAA facing has beens. It was based on this part of your post. "When teams are in a pennant race, they want to know that the team they are battling for the pennant is facing a team that is trying to win." You are talking about the way you want things to be. I am telling you how they are. You don't want the Reds to care about putting their best team out there versus the Phillies. I am telling you that the Reds do care about it. They want to know that if they are ever the team trying to stay in a race that they can count on all teams doing their best to beat the team they are chasing. It is another part of the code in baseball. That is just the way it is, like it or not.
August 31, 201115 yr Author Word is Meso is being called up tomorrow. They made room on the 40 man for him today.
August 31, 201115 yr They made room on the 40 man for him today. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/ The Reds will re-instate Chris Heisey from the disabled list and promote Juan Francisco, Chris Valaika, Devin Mesoraco, Carlos Fisher, Jared Burton, Matt Maloney and Jeremy Horst from Triple-A Louisville. Edinson Volquez and Travis Wood will join the Reds after Louisville’s season concludes on Monday.
August 31, 201115 yr Rolen should be back after this series so you won't see many rookies get playing time.
August 31, 201115 yr Author What a terrible call... I'm so tired of seeing umpires miss such obvious calls. And I'm tired of seeing Willis out there every 5th day. Get Volquez back in the rotation...
August 31, 201115 yr And I'm tired of seeing Willis out there every 5th day. Get Volquez back in the rotation... Take one outing away and he's been a 3.60 ERA starter. I'll take that.
August 31, 201115 yr Author Take one outing away and he's been a 3.60 ERA starter. I'll take that. I will too, but he's not going to be around next year. Unless it's out of the pen.
August 31, 201115 yr I will too, but he's not going to be around next year. Unless it's out of the pen. Gotcha. I misunderstood your point. I'm with you on getting EV in there. Alonso needs to play everyday in LF if JV is not going to move. Alonso has to be in the lineup. We'll just have to live with his glove.
