Sorry but so far I have not been impressed with Sappelt's outfield play. He broke back on that hit and then tried to make up for it with the dive. Is he trying to do too much to impress Dusty?

Just what is that supposed to mean? He has never played 3rd base in his professional career and he is put in the lineup against probably the best team in baseball and a left handed pitcher that has given the Reds fits since he came into the league. You don't think that is about as tough a spot to put a kid into as you can, professional player or not?

Isn't putting players in tough spots a good way to find out what kind of player he is?

 

I'm as hard on Dusty as anyone, but some of you guys gripe about every little thing the guy does. it's apparent that, given some of the reporting this weekend, Jocketty wants to make sure Alonso gets plenty of playing time so that he can be evaluated for next season. Honestly, Alonso probably won't be any more out of place at third base than he was in the outfield.

You guys crack me up. You whine because Alonso isn't in the lineup. Then you whine when he is in it. You can find something wrong with every decision no matter which way it goes. I am excited about Alonso playing third. He clearly (at least to me and apparently to Dusty also) is not capable of playing left field. He isn't playing 1B. So why not 3B?

 

Maybe he is playing tonight because Hamels is pitching and Dusty wants his best offensive team on the field. They just swept a series this weekend so how can you complain about any of those lineups? It is actually pretty funny reading these "Duh"sty posts every day.

Who didn't know that you would come to Dusty's defense. In your eyes everything he does is right. Didn't the Reds just play 2 of the worst teams in the Eastern Division? Why couldn't he have given the kid a chance to get his feet wet at 3rd against an average righty instead of a tough lefty? Can you explain that one oh wise one?

He played a flawless third base. He also had some questionable calls on strikes against him to put him in a hole against the pitcher. His defense was great and deserves another game there.

It's not hard to be flawless when you don't have a ball hit to you. You're missing the whole point with this discussion on Alonso at third. I agree he deserves another game there maybe even an extended period there but why did Dusty wait until the Phillies came to town to start the experiment? Wouldn't it have made sense to throw him out there over the last weekend against Washington instead? He had 2 chances to put him there against right handers Wang on Friday and Zimmerman on Sunday. Why throw him into the pressure cooker of playing the Phillies and facing a tough lefty in Hamels. I guess he'll sit him tonight against Halladay and put him back out there tomorrow against the lefty Lee. Makes sense.

I'd just like to see him in the lineup somewhere as apparently Jocketty would based on the article that was noted above and submitted below. I honestly don't care where he plays on defense. At this point in the season it makes no difference to the standings. The whole point was don't put him into a situation to fail. He had 2 games over the weekend that were meaningless that he could have started Alonso in against right handers where he wouldn't have felt near the pressure to perform. After last night I'll be surprised if we see him again for another week. Cairo at third tonight against Halladay.
