Sources suggest there has been some difference of opinion over playing time between Reds GM Walt Jocketty and manager Dusty Baker, who has a year to go on his contract. The Reds are over .500 for the first time since early July, but it is curious how much playing time veterans Miguel Cairo and Freddie Lewis are getting in a lost season. Rival execs say they also would have traded Ramon Hernandez before the July 31 trade deadline and employed Devin Mesoraco as catcher. Hernandez was claimed on waivers by a competitor and pulled back by the Reds. He would have helped the Giants, among others.

This is sooo close to the line up the Reds should have had. Put Ramon in hitting 5th and slide Alonso down to 6th and we have it. Also should probably put Frazier at 3rd and Alonso in left.

I think the Reds should just play 2 outfielders with Stubbs and Bruce in right center and left center and play a rover.

If he has a bad game, Dusty will use this as an excuse not to play him for the next week. Like the LF experiment. Setting him up to fail.

Dusty Baker never seems to amaze me with some of the things that he does. I like a lot of others on here have been screaming for him to give Alonso a chance and he had more than enough in Florida and this weekend against Washington and what does he do but stick him at 3rd and throw him against a very tough lefty. Nothing like setting the kid up for real failure. He is probably so nervous about fielding bunts that he will be darn lucky if he even makes contact against Hamels. Unbelievable!

The guy is a professional baseball player, not some high school kid.

Just what is that supposed to mean? He has never played 3rd base in his professional career and he is put in the lineup against probably the best team in baseball and a left handed pitcher that has given the Reds fits since he came into the league. You don't think that is about as tough a spot to put a kid into as you can, professional player or not?
