I don't think him at 3B or in LF is the best team right now. He gives up more on defense than he can make up on offense. He just can't play LF based on what we have seen. At 3B he is an experiment. I don't know how he has looked in workouts but I am sure if they were confident enough in his defense there he would be playing more. They are picking his spots and trying to find games where there won't be much action at 3B to break him in slowly. The thing so many people overlook is that defense is just as important as offense in baseball. One error on defense against a team like the Phillies and you lose.

It is hard to say with the call ups and Rolen coming back, but I would guess Alonso's best chance at starting at 3B is when Bailey and Cueto pitch.

The games don't matter this year. What does it matter if they finish 2nd or 4th? Obviously he is a question mark on defense. He's just as big of a question mark on offense. It would be nice to let him start somewhere every day for a month to see how he hits.

I'm thinking Mesoraco will start with Leake on the mound today. He's caught him before, so it makes sense. Of course, Dusty may want him to get acclimated to the dirt behind home plate at GABP so he may give him a day or two.

It depends on whether Mesoraco got in town last night/yesterday. If he did, he might start. But I doubt it. I see Hanigan going today and Mesoraco getting his first start over the weekend, maybe to get settled, maybe to give his family time to get in town and see his first big league game. There are all kinds of things that get factored in to that decision. :D

Mesoraco will catch bullpen sessions the first couple days to "get acclimated"....Dusty you're an idiot.

Phillips 2B

Renteria SS

Votto 1B

Bruce RF

Francisco 3B

Alonso LF

Stubbs CF

Hanigan C

Leake P

Why would you not put Stubbs in the 5 or 6 slot to break up the 4 straight lefties?

I agree with giving him a day or two before he starts. It better not be longer than that though.

BTW, Fred Lewis was sent to AAA today.

Phils pitcher knocks in second run, but luckily Stubbs throws runner from 2nd trying to score.

Let me get a head start on tomorrow's lineup:

Starting lineup - whoever, doesn't matter

Comment on lineup - Dusty is an idiot.

And you would obviously justify every move because Dusty doesn't make mistakes in your eyes.

Fred Lewis getting any starts the last month while Alonso was riding pine is dumb. So much so that they basically cut him today so it wouldn't happen anymore.

Hopefully the Braves don't file a complaint because Alonso and Francisco are starting the same game.

Francisco and Alonso get on to start the 2nd and Stubbs and Hanigan both look at strike 3 right down the heart of the plate....How much longer are the Reds going to be on the Drew Stubbs experience before they come to the realization that he's a bust?

Tied for 6th in the NL in runs in only his second full season. I'd hope they are patient.

Wrong. I have questioned Dusty a lot this year. I just don't question every move of every game. And it is now in piling on mode where people are looking for something to criticize. You can do that with virtually every manager in baseball every day. That's the nature of the game. When there is a legitimate reason to criticize Dusty, I will be right there with you.

I hope Alonso can get it together in LF. It has been beyond ugly so far. I want him in the lineup but if he gets through today with a misplay in LF, I think that will be the first game he has done it.

And on cue Alonso makes a nice play in LF. Come on, Yonder, show us you can do it.

Oh it's obviously the right move to sit him a day or two. There's no way he's had a chance to learn how the ball plays off the back stop on a wild pitch, and doesn't know the wind current inside the stadium enough to be able to make the throws to 2nd or 3rd if needed.
