August 24, 201115 yr Though it was a limited sample, I am still surprised that Tebow's performance last season was not enough to earn him strong consideration as a starter this season and a lock as no less than 2nd string. Apparently, he has had a very poor camp or ticked off the wrong person. Again, not much of a Tebow fan, but he had some nice performances last year in the games he did play.
August 24, 201115 yr Yes So you believe with him being 3rd string, that the fans won't still boo Orton if he struggles and want Tebow? Him being 3rd team would mean nothing to the fans, they still would want Tebow and would make it known the same as they would even if he was #2.
August 24, 201115 yr It makes a lot of sense. Competition is a good thing. I guess you can subscribe to the theory of somebody like Cincy that just hands the keys to a rookie QB or Washington that just hands the keys to a guy who hasn't started. Or you can be a team like Green Bay that has had a slew of QB's on the same team like Favre, Hassellback, Rodgers, Bruenell etc. I don't think you can ever have too many competative QB's. If you develope a guy the reward on the back end is huge! Elway would have never drafted Tebow. Not his kind of passer. Teams should be able to get him at a decent value. Step back and look at the big picture. Jacksonville ranks every year as the worst fan base in the NFL. They can't get rears in the seats. IF and I understand that's an IF Tebow developes he could save that franchise. Jacks has gotten much much better on defense. When healthy MJD is an absolute beast. They still have no WR's but have a nice TE. Let the two young guys compete behind Garrard. QB is far and away the most prized position in the NFL. If you are able to develope a young one to trade then you get good value. They just spend a 1st round pick on a QB. Now you want them to trade another pick and who knows possibly two for them to get another QB. A QB who is a project at that, and may never see the field if their 1st round pick pans out. If they really needed Tebow that bad, they should have traded up last year for him. However to now trade a pick now for him, just after they drafted a QB that they feel like is their future and paying him that way is dumb. Besides if they traded for Tebow, don't they then have to pick up his contract. Which also was a 1st round contract, so they would be paying money to two QB's who have 1st round contracts. Who knows Tebow's contract might be even worth more money than they guy they just drafted with how the rookie contracts changed. So it just wouldn't be smart at all IMO. Now if Denver releases him, then they need to be the first team calling him right away. However no reason to trade anything for him, especially a draft pick after just drafting a QB with their first pick. Their 1st pick is already in competition, its not like they handed it to him anyways.

The organization is trying to let the fans know he isn't any good.
August 24, 201115 yr Yes. The organization is trying to let the fans know he isn't any good. Not sure that's the smartest move if they ultimately want to use him as trade bait, though.
August 24, 201115 yr Season start Sunday? Nope, anyone see my post on "how many QBs are sucessful in their first or second year?" I guess not. Tim will be the starter, I just haven't prayed for it yet, I'm too busy praying for a freshman kicker right now.
August 24, 201115 yr I like the fact Tebow has set himself a goal and is busting his tail to reach it. Hope he starts someday.
August 25, 201115 yr Yes. The organization is trying to let the fans know he isn't any good. Which he might be so bad that Quinn is just better than him. I don't know why people find it so hard to believe that Quinn may have improved, or atleast improved enough to be better than Tebow. Lets not forget it took Quinn about 3 years in college before he ever started doing well in college either. So if they moved Tebow to third string, its probably because he just is not as good as Quinn right now and not just because they want to quiet the fans. Plus if they did it for the reasons you say. Then they are just flat out dumb, because say Orton gets hurt if Tebow was really better than Quinn then you would think they would rather have Tebow going in. If they did what you said, it's not doing whats best for the team. There much better chance of Quinn just performing better than Tebow in practice, than them just doing it to quiet fans.

Can Gabbard win in the NFL? If not what is their next option. Garrard isn't the answer or they wouldn't be trying to unseat him. Is Jacksonville going to be able to keep their franchise 5-10 years down the road if they aren't selling tickets? That's a huge if for them. Garrards days are numbered there. If Gabbard can't play then they are in major trouble. If I'm Jax I'd be thinking hard about rolling the dice. Worst case scenerio you have 2 young QB's that can push each other then you play the best. If it's Gabbard you're out a 3rd maybe a 2nd but you could deal Garrard. If it pans out then the franchise would never be in better shape. It's hard to explain to anybody that hasn't been around that area. Tebow absolutly hung the moon for the people around there. If he can play at all he would be HUGE for that franchise as far as stability+revenue.

Also the owner makes the decisions about who he brings in, not the city of Jacksonville. So even if they don't get more seats sold, and have to move he would still be in the owner in the new city he goes to. So it's not like he is in jeoporady of losing his team if they can't, he could just move them then to like LA. Where he would then definitely sell alot of seats. So either way he really won't be in to bad of shape, so no reason to get rid of a draft pick for a guy who can't even beat out Brady Quinn for 2nd on the depth chart. He has a QB now who they believe is their future, and if he works out then seats would get sold and if they still don't get sold then the team most likely will move, but he will still be there.
August 25, 201115 yr I'm sure the Broncos will use him in some fashion. He did score six rushing TDs which was more than guys named Charles and Rice.
August 25, 201115 yr It's only a matter of time before everyone gets sicks of him. I've been sick of him since his junior year at Florida. He isn't ever going to be a Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning...it's just not going to happen. He may get another opportunity like last season, but he's just not a good enough passer and that's what wins.
August 25, 201115 yr Seems like a good kid. I just don't think he's an NFL qb. At this point in his career, I fully agree. I do think, however, that he can be a serviceable starting QB at some point in the future. Tebow needs to borrow a small snake from Cerrano and wave it in front of his locker Nice! I'd love to see him be successful. This thread sums up most of the reason why. One hundred percent agree. :thumb:
August 25, 201115 yr I'd like to see Tebow succeed. But, to be honest, I tend to agree with the group that doesn't think that will happen. I do think he could be utilized in a way similar to how Urban Meyer used him as a freshman at Florida. A short-yardage and goal line substitution who can run like a fullback but gives you a legitimate throwing option. There is certainly a place in today's NFL for situational and specialized players, so it is possible. The question is whether teams would deem that worty of a roster spot. I have serious doubts about him ever developing into a successful, full-time starting QB.
