Tebow Demoted

I'd love to see him be successful. This thread sums up most of the reason why.

It all comes down too John Elway+ the new regime there IMO. Elway and Fox weren't as high on him as the past staff. They would have been fools to sit Orten the way he played last year. If Jacksonville had any sense they would make a deal for him. They can't fill the seats there. I've got an old roomate down there. He said they litterally let the kids out of school when he has something going on in Jax. He played at Neise HS in Jax+Gainseville is right down the road. He'd put fans in the seats there.

God must not like him.

And in this respect I cannot help but feel pity for him in this moment. He's caught a lot of flack (and rightly so in my opinion) for that statement. If one accepts the premise of temporal reward as the consequence of God's love, then it seems to me that logic commands accepting the idea of temporal punishment. As a Roman Catholic, I'm bound to the concept of temporal punishment, but I also believe that attempting to draw direct lines between the events of our lives and Divine Providence is a troubling exercise in asserting specific knowledge of God's Will. Now, not being the starting quarterback of an NFL team is pretty small in the grand scheme of temporal punishments (see: Egyptian plagues, The Flood, etc.) but in stating that he believes God's love would lead him to a starting job, such a believer must be at a loss trying to figure out why that love has not favored him.

Considering they just used a 1st round pick on their QB of the future, how would it make sense for them then to trade another draft pick for another QB. They don't need two QB's of the future, and one of them in Tebow who may never see the field at QB.

Not a Tebow fan at all, but the guy did perform fairly well in limited opportunities last year. I find it hard to believe that the Broncos thinks it's a safer plan to turn the reigns over to Brady Quinn should Orton get injured. Brady Quinn . . :eyeonyou:

People talk about how Tebow has not been given much of a chance, but when has Quinn been given much of a chance either? I mean he played in Cleveland, where it's not exactly the place for QB's to go to if they want to have success. That might be changing now with Mike Holmgren there and the West Coast offense. However at that time, it was not a good place for a QB to do well. Even Jeff Garcia who usually always performed decent wherever he was at, sucked when he was in Cleveland. So it would be very poor to come up with an opinion on how Brady is based on a few games played in Cleveland. The Broncos have every reason to have Tebow as the #2 and will receive a lot of crap from the fan base there about it. So Quinn honestly must be doing better these days for them to do that, or if not then Tebow just really is struggling big time in practice there.

He's third string so the fans don't go crazy and boo Orton on every incompletion begging for Tebow to replace him.

You honestly think that is the reason? You honestly think they still are not going to boo and want Tebow to replace him even though he is 3rd string? It is still going to happen as long as Tebow is on the team. If Tebow is 3rd team right now, the only reason that would be would be because Quinn is simply better right now. Which could go two ways, Quinn has actually improved some, or Tebow is just that bad. Could be a little bit of both.

A few thoughts...

First, did anyone actually expect Tebow to be a starting QB in the NFL in his second season? I didn't. I thought it was a consensus opinion that he was a project that would take some time to develop into an NFL QB. I would hardly say this closes the book on his career.

Second, he was demoted to third string, not cut from the team. His career isn't over.

Third, he isn't starting. Whether he's second or third string makes no difference to me.

The guy believes he'll be a starting QB someday. I don't recall him saying explicity that it would be in Week One of Year Two. Tebow simply needs to continue to work hard, as he reportedly always does, and try to crack the lineup in the future. I'm certain the daily double of coaching change and off-season lockout did not help him in the current situation. He still needs work and to learn a new offense and he had about a month to do that instead of the norm of an entire spring and summer.

I don't get the big deal being made of this.

If Tebow starts before the season is over...or next year...or the year after...does that mean God likes him after all? Does that mean that God didn't like him in 2011, but Tebow won him over and God started liking him again in 2012? Just curious.

I forgot that the NFL changed the rule for this year regarding the 3rd qb. You can now have all 3 play without having to name one as your emergency qb. I'd expect there to be some packages for Tebow.

This pretty much sums it up. :D

It makes a lot of sense. Competition is a good thing. I guess you can subscribe to the theory of somebody like Cincy that just hands the keys to a rookie QB or Washington that just hands the keys to a guy who hasn't started. Or you can be a team like Green Bay that has had a slew of QB's on the same team like Favre, Hassellback, Rodgers, Bruenell etc. I don't think you can ever have too many competative QB's. If you develope a guy the reward on the back end is huge!

Elway would have never drafted Tebow. Not his kind of passer. Teams should be able to get him at a decent value. Step back and look at the big picture. Jacksonville ranks every year as the worst fan base in the NFL. They can't get rears in the seats. IF and I understand that's an IF Tebow developes he could save that franchise. Jacks has gotten much much better on defense. When healthy MJD is an absolute beast. They still have no WR's but have a nice TE. Let the two young guys compete behind Garrard. QB is far and away the most prized position in the NFL. If you are able to develope a young one to trade then you get good value.

I'd love to see him be successful. This thread sums up most of the reason why.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm of the belief that at least on a subconscious level he asks for this...

I'd like to see him succeed because Tebow is an exciting player to watch, IMO. Star power is always good and Tebow would certainly bring it in a big way if he turns out to be a good NFL QB.
