Will Travis Elliott Sit Out the 1st Quarter of Every Game?

Featured Replies

Interesting strategy employed by Coach Warner last night. I read in the paper that his star player and potential Mr Football candidate Travis Elliott sat out the first quarter of last night's game over Cooper so that he could "be fresh for the 4th quarter." Gutsy strategy since the game stayed close early.

Is this sound strategy?

Isn't Elliott already in good enough shape to play 4 quarters?

Am I correct that he played defense in the 1st quarter?

Is this really a smokescreen by the coach?

If it's not a smokescreen it's dumb.

I agree doesn't make sense if they are beating a team by 30 points in the 4th quarter. Or what if a team turns it on in the first quarter?

It makes a little bit of sense. Just like in professional soccer, sometimes the best players on the squads (usually older) just wait until the 30th or the 2nd half with fresh legs and come in and are immediate game changers, 2 times what they'd be if they'd been playing the entire time. Personally, I wouldn't sit him, but it does make sense.

I heard this too. Perhaps Warner was just trying to protect Elliotts reputation?

I don't think many are buying the "rest" theory.

What's the harm in saying a kid got disciplined? It happens. No big deal.

It is hard to believe Coach Warner would run a smoke screen because every player on the team and most parents would know the reason given in the paper and the real reason are two different reasons. In other words, it is lose-lose to run a smoke screen...

Warner had to of known the truth would reach BGP..............:D

I am not saying anything is the truth, I am saying none of it adds up at this point.

I heard that Travis wanted to stick with the 1 quarter disciplinary action because he had apologized to his teammates and told them he would be sitting the first quarter of the Cooper game. Coach and Travis must have agreed to sit the first quarter even though he was reinstated as captain (he did go to midfield for the coin flip.) Travis is a pleasure to watch play and he plays the game with an intensity and politely hands the ball to the official every time he scores. He is a very team oriented player and fun loving young man. The incident is past history. I kinda like the idea of resting him on defense for the first quarter but I'd obviously like to see him on the field as much as possible.

I like the philosophy, wear em down then bring in the BMOC and watch him rip the soul out of the opponent. NKY is blessed with some phenomenal talent this season.

Since it was a successful strategy (he indeed had a good game at the expense of a tiring Cooper defense), I guess we'll have to wait to see if he is rested in the first quarter of games against Colerain, SK, Dixie, Boone, Highlands, etc...
