July 20, 201115 yr Under the new CBA, which we will likely see a new salary floor, it could affect Mike Brown and his pocket book. If Palmer retires and they cut Ocho Cinco the Bengals will be in the area of 46 million under the salary floor. They will likely resign Jonathon Joseph and Ced Benson, and could extend some young players contracts but they will still be well below the floor. I'm not positive if the new "floor" goes into effect this season, but the free agent frenzy that will take place will make things interesting for the Brown Family. What do you foresee the Bengals doing?

July 20, 201115 yr That's an easy one for the Bengals. First, they will choose to keep Palmer. This deal is horrible for Palmer because the Bengals now have incentive to keep him whether he plays or not. Second, they will keep 85. Really, the only reason Brown gets rid of those two is money. Now money says he should keep them. That is a no brainer in Mikey World.

July 20, 201115 yr If they have money they have to spend I would be like Tampa Bay and at least get into the Nhamdi Asomugha sweepstakes. It couldn't hurt. But honestly, the Favre think mentioned seems like a Bengals move, don't know if they'll do it though. Could see them going after Moss, that would be classic Bengals football. If they have to spend that much, why not go after someone like Sidney Rice if he doesn't go back to Minnesota? He's still relatively young, and would be a nice guy to add to their offensive core for the future. Giving Dalton two guys out wide like AJ Green and Rice, with Gresham at TE, and they'd have a nice core going forward. They could then concentrate on improving the OL, spots on defense, and finding a long-term guy in the backfield (which is honestly the easiest position to fill in the NFL IMO).
July 20, 201115 yr Go after OL free agents, Dalton will need a lot of help. That would make too much sense. MB likes moves that are splashier.
July 21, 201115 yr I think they trade 85 for whatever they can get, sign a Vet QB, sign JJ, and Ced, then play ball. Not sure on Ced because of the arrest...
July 21, 201115 yr On Palmer, I would hold out until someone has a dire need and then trade him too. I think in the right situation he commands a 1st rounder but the Bengals will have to wait for someone's QB to go down.

I think in the right situation he commands a 1st rounder but the Bengals will have to wait for someone's QB to go down. Palmer is going to pull a Favre, and will show up two weeks into camp because he realizes he misses it and the Bengals won't give in and trade him. However if that does not happen, I agree with you trade him to someone who needs him when and if their QB goes down. Even though I doubt they could get a 1st rounder now, because a team won't give up a 1st rounder for someone to come in who knows nothing about their offense. They would have IMO if he had a whole off season to learn their offense. Most likely at best it will be a 2nd, but most likely a 3rd IMO.

I don't see any team giving up a 1st rounder for Palmer when Kevin Kolb is available for trade as well. Not enough teams that desperate for a QB. I don't even think a team would be willing to give a 1st if their QB goes down. Draft picks are too valuable.

Kolb is the only one that could be argued is better for this year IMO.
