Does that mean that Cohorn is the back up QB? Because Zeke is not playing in the NewCath game that becomes a pretty big issue for that game.

I had to leave early. It was like watching a classic Florida/Ky barnburner where Florida would score on every play and Ky would fumble the snap. It was really bad!!! Not sure what Western Brown did after I left but it was pretty much pitch & catch & score while I was there. I highly doubt they will be back.

Anybody see Ryle play today? I heard they looked way better than expected for a "rebuilding" offense. Nathan Davis at QB, Elliott, Pulice, Lehmkuhl and Nutter supposedly looked good. They might surprise a few people if Davis can spread it out a little.

 

I did not see Ryle but I was told that Davis looked good. However, "spread it around a little" just doesn't happen in Union.

SK is playing at CovCath right now started at 6pm.

Overall I thought Conner looked the best. Their defense struggled. But offensively they looked unstoppable. Barker looked very impressive. The Mulderink/Fogle combination was lethal. Beechwood looked good as well. Davis threw a nice ball. I was also impressed with Vockes receiving skills. Ryle looked like an average team. Davis was solid but not impressive. I would imagine he'll just have to worry about handoffs anyways. Campbell Co and SK both struggled at the QB position. SK's defense looked good but they struggled to move the ball offensively.

From what I understand the offense was pretty dominating even though Anderson's DB's were playing about 35 yards off the ball, (they were quick learners I guess). The defense I understand was equally impressive even though Anderson's regular QB wasn't there. What's interesting is that Anderson has a top 10 ranking and Elder doesn't.

The average Ryle team looked very sharp vs. Conner and beat them at their own game by 1 TD in the full scrimmage. Conner did not stop Ryle and Davis and Barker looked very sharp. Davis got rid of the ball very accurately and soooner than Barker time and again. The second time they scrimmaged, Conner scored once and Ryle none in 2 possessions of the first team. Ryle looked sloppy on those 2 possessions, their only 2 bad possessions of the day. Barker will be a great QB but held the ball 4-6 seconds on many occasions before passing long. Obviously, that will not happen in a game situation. That's why 7-on-7 is overrated. Elliott was the best athlete on the field. I agree 100% that Campbell and SK really struggled passing the ball consistently. Beechwood's Davis looked good and will have a great year for the Tigers. Lots of good Davis play at QB.

yes, it is 7on7, but that is still an admirable performance. You bring up a good point about the backs playing off the ball. Ryle did this last year against Highlands with much success. Hopefully we'll see some more short to mid range type passing this year.

I tell people all the time to never put anything into "outcomes" of a 7-on-7. I saw the same thing in a game I watched on Thursday.

From what I saw Elliott had several drops. Was he the best PLAYER on the field? No doubt. Was he the best ATHLETE? You could make an argument. Davis from ryle simply dumped the ball. They showed no ability to stretch the field. On your point about 7 on 7's. I agree. They don't tell many tales and who knows about any of these teams Olines.

Here's a few issues I have with placing much value in 7-on-7s.

 

No rush.

No visual distractions from the O and D lines.

No worry from the D about play action or the qb running.

QB forced to pass on plays where there is nothing which would have resulted in a scramble.

DBs playing so far off the ball.

WR's not having to worry about being hit while making a catch.

DBs not having to worry about making a tackle.

 

Besides that it's a great way to see what team is better than the other.
