August 1, 201115 yr Author Does Alonso really deserve to be a starter in the Reds' outfield, or does the Lewis/Heisey platoon give them a better chance to win? I guess that's a question we'll always ask until Alonso gets a chance to show what he can do.

August 1, 201115 yr Author Don't know him personally. Many people in charge of hiring managers think otherwise. I'm not so sure. The two previous organizations that thought it was a good idea got rid of him.

August 1, 201115 yr Honestly, managing the Cubs shouldn't go on anyone's record. He inherited a team that ended up within a few outs of the World Series and left it in shambles. A good deal of the Cubs' decline on his watch is attributable to his management.
August 1, 201115 yr RE: Alonso ... they pinch ran for him the other night. How many times have you seen a pinch runner used for an "outfielder"? They are working Alonso in the outfield every day and I am sure Dusty and his coaches have seen enough to have a fair idea what to expect if they use him in a game. I would like to see Alonso get a chance to play some also, but I think we all agree that this is no time for tryouts. The Reds at this point need to win every game and risking the unknown and/or the uncertain usually isn't the way to win a game.
August 1, 201115 yr Spindoc for GM and LRCW for manager!!! Once that happens, I will immediately start the Fire Spindoc and Fire LRCW threads.

August 1, 201115 yr Author I don't have that big of a problem with not making any trades like that. Teams were giving up a lot in some of those deals. This isn't really a team that can afford to do things like that. They need a solid farm system year after year. I do have a problem with not dealing someone like Hernandez. Hernandez can still, and probably will be moved.
August 1, 201115 yr Hernandez can still, and probably will be moved. Don't think anyone will claim him?
August 1, 201115 yr Crash Davis, director of beer vending. With you and LRCW in charge, I'll most certainly need to be around a lot of alcohol........
