July 10, 201115 yr And of course you except whom to pay for this "one" event a year that draws this kind of crowd? The owner of the track should pay for it. The state shouldn’t have to pay for improvements to Ky Speedway, the state didn't build it there and shouldn't have to use tax dollars to make that site work for the owner. IMO the owner of the track should be the one responsible for improving the fan experience not the state of Ky. However if the owner of the track can show that additional ramps will increase revenue for the state (additional industry, restaurants, shopping and residential property) then I would have no problem with the state chipping in, but only if it's profitable for the state...
July 10, 201115 yr I heard this morning that tailgating my not be allowed in the parking lot areas from now on. Fans putting up tents in those areas decreased the number of parking spots available.
July 10, 201115 yr The truth to this issue goes more towards the people in this area thinking they can leave a few hours before the race and still get in their seats on time. I have been to tracks all over the country ... And have never had issues providing that we left early. We left NKY at 11:45 am .... And got there in 38 minutes. It took us slightly longer ... About 50 minutes to get home. I am sorry ... But anyone who left from NKY to get to the track at 2:45 pm are the ones at fault. This isn't like a Bengals game ... Where you have half the people in a developed area with loads of parking. I am more disappointed with the whining from people who left their house 3 hours before the race---and complain as opposed to the boring action (or lack thereof) on the track.

I understand what you're saying, but if everybody leaves at 11:45 AM, given the infrastructure currently in place, what happens?
July 11, 201115 yr They can't blame it on I-71 if go to Bristol the highway down there is 2 lanes but when u get off the exit its at least six 6lanes to the track.
July 11, 201115 yr It took my sister and brother-in-law 6 hours to get from Louisville to exit 55. That's an infrastructure problem not a planning problem...
July 11, 201115 yr They can't blame it on I-71 if go to Bristol the highway down there is 2 lanes but when u get off the exit its at least six 6lanes to the track. That's the key, you have to prevent bottlenecking at the entrance. The problem is not I71 it's the entrance to the Speedway.
July 11, 201115 yr I understand what you're saying, but if everybody leaves at 11:45 AM, given the infrastructure currently in place, what happens? Um mmm..... 3-4 more hours to get situated. Trust me ... Places like Bristol that are in the middle of nowhere....in a place where you can only park on the side of the road ... Including the fact that that place seats 168,000 .... If they can figure it out ... I am sure that Kentucky will figure it out as well. Most importantly ... The fans here need to figure it out. The funny thing is ... On my way to the track and on the way home ... I saw license plates from everywhere but Kentucky. And again ... I made it there and back quickly. You would think that the people from NKY. Would have done there homework when it comes to "alternate routes"
July 11, 201115 yr Agreed! I heard there were very few police ect dirrecting traffic until you got to the track, heard that they did not have all lanes of 35 and 1039 going towards the track, yet just after 9PM they made all lanes outbound which made many fans miss the entire race, including Senate President David Williams. One of the Nascar racers was stuck in the trafffic! I read where it was the second worse, second only to the opening of Texas Speedway in 97. Nascar was worried about the planning, or the lack of one, but instead of working a lot harder to improve things the owner just wants to blast I-71, I guess as he could use I-71 as an excuss instead of the poor planning! He has said the said thing about Charlotte too, I guess every interstate is the worse? Just very poor planning is all it is! I was there and lets just say there were plenty of police directing traffic where it needed to be directed. The problem here was too many cars and not enough road/parking.

Would have done there homework when it comes to "alternate routes" I know plenty of people who made it in with no problems because they prepared and left early. However there still was not enough parking for this event, and the roads need some work as well.
July 11, 201115 yr On top of all this it was a very boring race. I am heading to the best track next month Bristol! I am fan of Bristol as well but....Bristol is not what it used to be...years ago you couldn't get a ticket, nowadays they are practically giving them away.
July 11, 201115 yr And of course you except whom to pay for this "one" event a year that draws this kind of crowd? Traffic is bad for all of their races. Also, how much did the racing weekend bring in? Wouldn't the weekend pay for the construction costs over the next 5 years?
July 11, 201115 yr I think what alot of the people don't understand is there is more to this than just a race. It's an event. Tailgating, all the exhibits, entertainment, etc. This is done to draw the crowd in early to help relieve some of the traffice problems. We left home around 9:00 to get to the track. Some of the first timers that went with us thought I was crazy for wanting to leave that earlier. They soon realized and understood why you need to leave early. Our 1 hr 45 minute trip was about 3 hours. But, that's what we expected. Like some stated earlier it's not like going to a Reds, Bengals, or UK game where you just drive in an hour or less before the game. Plus, you have to be prepared to park 3 or 4 miles from the track. That's just part of a NASCAR event. I've been to Bristol and had to park 5 miles from the track. For thoses that left at 2:00 or later to get to the race, I have no sympathy. Not meaning this to sound mean at all. But, it seemed like there were alot of first time race goers and I just don't think they understood what it's all about. I talked to some and they said they will be better prepared next time. As for leaving the track the key thing is patience. That's at all the tracks I've been to. If you think you will walk to your car and drive right out of the track think again. Some were complaing about waiting an hour to get out. I say you were lucky to get out that quick. I'm sure they will get this problem solved and that it will be much better next year. I know I plan on going early and enjoying the whole experience.
July 11, 201115 yr Too bad this happened. However, I can't see how this was a shocker to anyone. They were not equipped to handle 60 grand much less 110. Also, caught a little bit of the NW event on tv Friday night. Looked like a lot of empty seats for that one. I'm also guessing the same for the truck race. Do they still have an Indy car date?
