In reality what can the track do in regards to traffic? They can't just add exits and lanes.

If I was a serious gearhead I'd just plan on either going on Thursday and camping or go Thursday and get a close hotel room. Why fight traffic and get your blood pressure going?

No such thing as getting a close hotel room. I talked to a friend on Friday who tried and said there wasn't a room to be had within 100 miles of the place.

I 71 has very little to do with yesterdays debacle. You could have eight lanes on I71 but there's nowhere to go when you exit.

Did they have race traffic in one lane on 71? A picture I saw showed cones with one lane jammed and one lane wide open.

I didn't attend but heard from some friends that it was a mess. I can only assume the open lane in the picture was after the big funnel into one lane.

Went by the track on Friday morning, and thought parking was going to be interesting. Seemed like a lot of the fields/lawns that normally would've held cars/trucks/vans/etc. had a bunch of RV's parked in them. Was guessing that for each RV that was parked, there was probably about 6 single vehicle spaces that were lost. I bet a lot of the off-track places people expected to park were already filled by the time they got there.

On top of all this it was a very boring race. I am heading to the best track next month Bristol!

I left Warsaw for the 6 mile trek at 4:40 and got at the venue at 6:20. Which kinda worked out for me, because I hate having to wait around hours just to watch a race After the race I got in my vehicle at 11:30 and was out on the road by 12:05, which wasn't too bad.

I'm so happy this happened after Bruton Smith took a shot at the "horsey race" this week.

Agreed! I heard there were very few police ect dirrecting traffic until you got to the track, heard that they did not have all lanes of 35 and 1039 going towards the track, yet just after 9PM they made all lanes outbound which made many fans miss the entire race, including Senate President David Williams. One of the Nascar racers was stuck in the trafffic! I read where it was the second worse, second only to the opening of Texas Speedway in 97.

Nascar was worried about the planning, or the lack of one, but instead of working a lot harder to improve things the owner just wants to blast I-71, I guess as he could use I-71 as an excuss instead of the poor planning! He has said the said thing about Charlotte too, I guess every interstate is the worse?

Just very poor planning is all it is!

Burton tries to blame I-71 but if you ever go to Bristol its just a two lane highway and there is no problems their. Burton Smith screwed up big time he must be related to Mike Brown.

The entrance to the speedway was very bad. My sister and brother-in-law made it to the race with 11 laps to go, and had to park at the pilot station at exit 55. Several people in our party of 40 didn't make it or made it in with less than 50 laps to go.

As for the race itself, I thought it was okay but not great. I disagree that Bristol is a better race. I’ve never liked watching a car that can run 200 mph run 80mph

The exit to the race was very surprising, my personal experience leaving the race was better than Bristol and Daytona.

My solution for what it’s worth. They need at least 3 more exits off 71, those three exits need to lead to three new entrances to the speedway, the problem imo was the bottlenecking that was taking place at the entrance to the speedway, remove the delay at the entrance and the traffic will get much better...

Went to the truck race Thursday night and traffic was a mess for that as well (took us well over an hour to leave the parking lot afterwards); although not near as bad as yesterday apparently? The main problem I saw was the majority of the parking is behind the speedway/grandstands, which is accessible only by a two lane running between the main and secondary lots. All the parking both in & out had to flow along this two lane road leading to the main access roads from exits # 55 & 57; so regardless of how effectively you move traffic to the various speedway entrances, everything backed up once attempting to enter the parking lots. Guessing from the look of things being excavated, they are planning on some new lots, which could help; but immediately expanding the on-grounds parking access road to four or six lanes might help?? Additional parking closer to the main roads off I-71 and then shuttling to the track for non-campers would seem a wise move as well--Plenty of land?

And of course you except whom to pay for this "one" event a year that draws this kind of crowd?

Belterra had rooms available for Friday & Saturday nights as recently as early Friday morning? Of course they were charging $589 for a standard room??
